Wissota Late Model Challenge Series
OneMain Challenge Series Wraps Up 2016 Series and Crowns Champion THIS Wknd
The OneMain Challenge Series for WISSOTA Late Models fires back into action this coming weekend with their final three events on the 2016 series schedule this Saturday, Sunday and Monday over the course of Labor Day weekend.
The Hibbing Raceway in Hibbing, Minnesota will play host to back to back Challenge Series events as a part of their annual season-ending Labor Day Shootout on Saturday and Sunday, September 3rd and 4th with action taking place both days, paying an identical $3,000 to win each day.
Pit gates will open at noon daily with racing beginning at 3pm. WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds will be in competition both days as well. Modifieds will be competing for $2,000 to win daily, Midwest Modifieds will race for $500 daily and the Super Stocks will compete for $3,100 on Saturday as part of the 2nd annual Kevin and Kathy Davey Memorial and will then compete for $1,000 on Sunday. Saturday night will feature a party under the grandstands after the races with a DJ, food and drink available. A beanbag tournament will take place and breakfast will be served Sunday morning. Labor Day Shootout sponsors include US Steel, General Waste, Beltline Body Shop, Northern Belt & Conveyor, Pepsi, Domino’s Pizza and Mohawks Salvage.
Justin Fegers is the most recent Challenge Series winner at the Hibbing Raceway in 2012. Other drivers who have gone to victory lane during Challenge Series events at the Hibbing Raceway include AJ Diemel, Steve Vesel, Gregg Hill, Tommy Waseleski Jr and 2 time winner Pat Doar.
The series will then shift to the St. Croix Speedway in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin on Labor Day Monday, September 5th for a $2,000 to win event plus will crown the series champion and pay the $10,000 to the point champion. The St Croix Speedway is a tight ¼ mile banked oval that will host the OneMain Challenge Series for the first time ever during the Laursen Classic in memory of late, great racers Russ and Brent Laursen. Pat Doar, Brent Larson (twice) and Jake Redetzke are the three most recent Late Model winners at the speedway as the track has hosted Late Models only once annually in 2015, 2014, 2103 and 2012 respectively.
Gates will open at 3pm with racing beginning at 5:30pm. WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and WISSOTA Street Stocks, each racing for $500 to win, will be in competition with the Late Models.
