Berck headlines Ray Houck Memorial at Adams County Speedway
By ACS PR (Corning, IA) -- A whopping 109-cars came to play at the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa for the Titan Machinery Ray Houck Memorial. The Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series made their second appearance of 2018 to ACS. A total of 33-late models were in attendance with the hopes of collecting the $3,100-payday.
Action began on Saturday night with the Tri-State Ford Compacts. Dustin Thompson, Buddy Haidsiak and Chris Vannausdle won their respective heat races. Thompson came into the night with a slim eight-point lead over Vannausdle in the championship standings. In the feature, Dustin Grout and Tyler Hoover started on the front row. Both drivers were looking for their first career win. Hoover tried relentlessly to work his way around Grout, but he could not find a way around him and Grout cruised to his first career win. Hoover picked up his second consecutive runner-up finish, Bobby Key wound up in third. Buddy Haidsiak took home fourth and Kris Foote rounded out the top five. Thompson expanded his points lead with a 10th place finish while Vannausdle faltered to a 15th place finish.
The Chat Mobility Hobby Stocks were the next class to hit the dirt. Points leader Luke Ramsey, Andy Davison and Jerid Lund all nabbed heat race victories. Ed Swanson started on the pole of the feature but was caught up in a lap one accident that also collected Lund, Chris Bates and David Weeda. Weeda’s 40x machine was sent for a wild ride down the front stretch. Luckily, Weeda walked away unscathed. Davison paced the field following the wreck and opened a nearly four-second lead on the competition. The Clarinda native never blinked and sailed to his third win of the season. Ramsey took home a second-place finish, Korbin Nourse picked up a career best third-place, Josh Modde and Brent Ricker rounded out the top five.
15-Stalker Chevrolet B-Modifieds were in attendance on Saturday night. Jerod Weston and Alan Worth took home the checkers in their respective heat races. Worth and points leader Josh Sink started on the pole for the feature. Sink quickly took the lead, but Weston lurked close behind. The two cars put on a great side-by-side battle for many laps, but Weston missed a shift with nine to go and lost valuable time. The Red Oak native then began to press the issue and spun out to bring out a caution. Sink held off a hard charging Shawn Kralik on the final restart to nab his eighth win of the season. Weston rallied from his mid-race spin to collect a third-place finish. Cody Werner and Daniel Baudler rounded out the top five.
33 of the Midwest’s most talented late model drivers were in Corning Saturday for the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series. Bill Leighton, Andrew Kosiski, Josh Krug and Jason O’Brien were all victorious in their respective heat races. Allen Hopp and Daulton Maassen advance to the big show by winning their respective B-Features. Andrew Kosiski led the early phase of the main event while Krug, Ben Schaller and Kyle Berck lurked close behind. Berck muscled his way past Krug and Schaller, eventually taking the lead from Kosiski. Berck had his sights set on the win, but a caution came out with four laps to go, setting up a shootout. Berck hit his marks on the restart and held off a hard-charging Leighton to pick up the win and the $3,100 payday. Schaller took home third, followed by Kosiski in fourth and Justin Zeitner in fifth.
Jacob Hobscheidt and Clay Mercer won their respective heat races in the Poet Bio-Refining Modifieds. Hobscheidt and Ryan Jenkins started on the front-row for the feature. Jenkins quickly muscled his way past Hobscheidt for the lead. Jenkins had his number six machine dialed in, never bobbling on his way to pick up his second win of the year. Hobscheidt held on for the second-place finish. Jesse Dennis took home third, Nick Roberts finished fourth and Todd Vaneaton rounded out the top five.
Action concluded on Saturday night with the Northland Oil Stock Cars. Russell Stewart and Tony Hardisty both secured heat race wins. In the feature race, the two heat-race winners proved to be the cream of the crop as they battled fiercely for the win throughout the entire race. Stewart kept his car wound to the top side while Hardisty fiercely searched for different lanes and more moisture. With three to go, Hardisty found a preferred line and added moisture. The Corning native battled intensely with Stewart and edged him at the line to collect his fifth win of the season. Buck Schafroth, Luke Ramsey and Joe Zadina rounded out the top five.
Join us next week at ACS for Poet Bio-Refining Night with the McCunn Specialty Firearms Three-Wide Shootout in the Modifieds. Eligible drivers are; Jesse Dennis, Jeff Wiggins, Ryan Jenkins, Josh Most, Randy Foote and Josh Cooper.
Hot laps begin at 6:30 with racing to follow.
We hope to see you there!
