Lakeside set to host Malvern Bank Late Models

By Sam Stoecklin (Kansas City, KS) -- An action-packed Friday night of Racing on the River’s Edge awaits fans this Friday at Lakeside Speedway as Late Models make their first appearance of the year at the track with the Nebraska-based Malvern Bank Super Late Models (MBSLM). Also on the card are USRA B-Mods, Factory Stocks, E-Mods, and guest class, Mod-Lites.

Early season front-runners on the MBSLM Tour include Ben Schaller, Kyle Berck, Tad Pospisil, Jason O’Brien, and Beill Leighton. Winners on the MBSLMR Tour so far this season include Kyle Berck (Park Jefferson Speedway, I-80 Speedway, and Shelby County Speedway), Corey Zeitner (Rapid Speedway), Justin Kay (Off-Road Speedway), and Ben Schaller (Raceway Park).

Berck has won the last two races heading into this weekend’s $2,000-to-win Lakeside Speedway event. Past champions of the series include Al Humphrey 2008, Mike Wiarda 2009, Kyle Berck 2010-2013-2014-2015-2016, Travis Dickes 2011-2012, and Tad Pospisil 2017. Berck is the all-time series win leader with 77 victories. The series is now in its eleventh year of existence. For additional information on the series, visit http;//www.lmrseries.com.

In local competition, Shawn Burns continues to lead the way in E-Mods over Billy Spillman and Ben Stockton while Marshall Jewett shows the way in Factory Stocks ahead of Wayne Brooke and Matthew Matsukevich. Tim Powell holds a firm lead in the B-Mods over Brad Smith and Luke Nieman. In the first appearance of the year for the Mod-Lites, Dillon Raffurty drove to the victory with Ed Griggs and David Raffurty close behind.

Friday also serves at “Realtors Night” at the speedway. Realtors may show their official realtor’s card and their ticket to the grandstands to watch the races is absolutely free! All car classes will compete in full program of preliminary events and main events throughout the night.

Due to the summer heat Lakeside Speedway will continue with the 30-minute later start times until Friday, September 7, 2018. The Pit Area will open at 5, followed by General Admission beginning at 5:30 pm. Driver Pill draw ends at 7:00 pm with the drivers meeting at 7:15. Hot Laps begin at 7:30, followed by Racing at 8 pm.

For Friday, June 15, General Admission $12, Senior Citizens (65+) and Military $10, Kids ages 7 to 12 years $6, Children 6 and under Free. Suite seating is $20 for adults, $10 for Kids (ages 2-12). Pit Passes for Adults are $30, Kids (6 & under) $10.

Drivers are reminded they must race in at the very least 75% of Lakeside’s weekly races to become eligible for prize monies.
