David Mielke Wins Final Event of the 2015 Season for the Michigan Dirt Cup
Marne, Michigan (Saturday, September 26, 2015): The Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified tour presented by Lane Automotive concluded the 2015 racing season at the fast 7/16ths (0.437) mile semi-banked dirt oval of the Berlin Raceway. The famed fairground speedway located in Marne, Michigan hosted the final dirt cup national’s event in a joint show with the ever-exciting World of Outlaws Sprint Cars.
Collin Thirlby and Jeff Erickson Jr. led the field down to the chief starter Bret Farmer’s green flag kicking off the 30-lap affair. Thirlby was able to pull away with the early advantage. He remained in control until lap 14. That was the moment when 2015 series champion David Mielke would power his way by and take over the race lead. That turned out to be the final maneuver he would have to execute as he led the remainder of the race taking home the checkered flag, getting the win.
This marked the eighth win of the dirt cup season for the 23-year old Gladwin, Michigan native behind the wheel of the Krompetz Elevators / Northeastern Builders #87. Two-time series champion Jacob Poel finished as the runner-up. 2014 series champion Travis Stemler finished third. Thirlby and Aaron Morey rounded out the top five.
Dave Baker finished sixth. Jordan Bailey, Jason Hoogerhyde, Dave Schmidt, and John Hammerle completed the top ten.
The 12-lap last chance race was won by Randy Varney. While the Howe Racing Enterprises Heat race victories went to Stemler, Morey, and Poel. Stemler was the night’s fast qualifier with a time of 18.897.
