Mars Racing Series Launches 2022 Schedule
(January 8, 2022) LaSalle, IL – The officials of the Mars Racing Series are excited to announce the full 2022 season schedule for the series’ 23rd year. The 21-race tour will look to visit eleven different venues during the season. The series will return to many of the same tracks as last year but will also visit four new venues in 2022. Coming off a successful 2021 season that featured 2 of the top 3 races of the year according to DirtonDirt, the Mars staff is revved up for 2022.
This year’s superb schedule is highlighted with a minimum of five five-figure paydays scattered throughout the season with several events with purses yet to be announced. This includes stops at Farmer City Raceway, Fairbury Speedway, and the fast quarter mile at Davenport Speedway.
The 2022 campaign will look to kick off at Davenport Speedway for the 11th Annual Thaw Brawl on March 25th and 26th. For the first time since its inception the 2-day event will take place somewhere other than the LaSalle Speedway. Last year the always exciting event saw Garrett Alberson pick up a career payday of $12,000. Details for this event is being finalized but is expected to become the highest payday in the events history. The schedule will be the same for the event with full shows on Friday and Saturday nights on the quarter mile in Davenport, Iowa.
One of the highlights of the 2022 season for the Mars Racing Series will take place on the weekend of May 13th and 14th. Finishing off the Flo Racing Illinois Speedweek, the Mars Racing Series will be found at Farmer City Raceway on Friday night and Fairbury Speedway on Saturday night. A huge $45,000 will be up for grabs, $15,000 on Friday night and $30,000 on Saturday night. This mega event weekend should draw some of the biggest names in the country to compete.
A pair of weekends will close out the month of May. May 20th will feature a $5,000 to win event at Kankakee Speedway followed by a first time series visit to the three-eighths mile oval at Charleston Speedway on May 21st. This will be the first time Super Late Models have visited the venue since 2017 and promoter Sonny Ross is excited to have Charleston back on a Late Model schedule. The series will look to close out the weekend at Adams County Speedway, once known as Quincy Raceways for a $7,000 to win Sunday special on May 22nd. Memorial Day weekend will showcase a pair of $3,000 to win races at Farmer City Raceway and Fairbury Speedway May 27th & 28th. The weekend is scheduled to finish up on the high banks of the Spoon River Speedway for $5,000 to win on May 29th.
The series will take a nearly two-month hiatus as the DIRTcar Summer Nationals gets into action. But the series will start off a huge week of racing in the Midwest on July 26th with a $10,000 to win show at Davenport Speedway. This will be just days before the Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury Speedway. The event last year was the 2021 Race of the Year from DirtonDirt. Hudson O’Neal’s win featured great racing that led to a photo finish and the closest finish in series history over driver of the year Brandon Overton.
In August, the Mars Racing Series has an open date to fill that will partner up with a return to Shadyhill Speedway on August 13th for $5,000 to win. The following weekend is filled with first time visits for the series as it makes a trip into the state of Wisconsin. Things will kick off on Thursday night August 18th in Iowa at the Dubuque Speedway for $5,000 to win. The next night the series will adventure into the badger state for an August 19th Friday night event at Outagamie Speedway and finish up the weekend swing with $5,000 on the line at Lafayette County Speedway August 20th.
Labor Day weekend as always will feature a trio of Mars Series events. Friday September 2nd the series will return for a third time to Farmer City Raceway for $10,000 to win. That will be followed up by the third visit of the year to Fairbury Speedway on Saturday September 3rd for the Super Nationals paying $10,000 to win. Last year the Super Nationals feature was voted the 3rd best race of the year. Fans saw Bobby Pierce hold off McKay Wenger in the closing laps in a race we won’t forget anytime soon. The weekend trio of events will close out on Sunday September 4th will a $5,000 to win event along the annual Plowboy Nationals.
The 2022 race season for the Mars Racing Series will wrap up in October at Fairbury Speedway with the FALS Frenzy. The Friday October 7th event will pay $5,000 to win. On Saturday night October 8th the Mars Racing Series Champion will be crowned with a $15,000 to win payday on the line. The two-time and defending series champion Brian Shirley will be looking to defend his title.
