2017 ASCS Rules Package Updated

TULSA, OKLA. (January 20, 2017) The rules which govern the American Sprint Car Series have been updated for the 2017 season with only minor changes with some aimed at increasing safety.
One of these will be the mandate of five Dzus wheel covers in order to decrease the number of opportunities for wheel covers to come off and end up in the grandstands, as well as keeping in line with changes made at Knoxville Raceway as well as the World of Outlaws.
The percentage a driver must run to be a full time member of the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network has also been updated to 95% participation in the current year’s schedule. Drivers racing between 80—94.99% of races will still be eligible for point fund and contingences, but based on their percentage run. For regional lineups, the minimum will remain at 87% for full point fund payout to a driver who is a member in good standing.
As in years past, the front axle tethers will be highly recommended, but will be required at any event held at Knoxville Raceway. ASCS has, for the time being, outlawed all Carbon Fiber connecting rods having to do with Suspension and Steering, as well as Carbon Fiber components in the driveline.
Engine rules will reaming unchanged.
One update has been made to the top wing. Flat and dished wings will still be allowed, but the Wickerbill on the flat wing may now be two-inches tall.
The biggest addition of guidelines to the ASCS rules book regards tires. While Hoosier will continue to be the official tire of the American Sprint Car Series, officials are taking steps to get ahead of teams accused of altering tires. The rules are fashioned after the tire testing and doping rules set by the Lucas Oil Late Models Dirt Series and come with stiff fines and penalties if a team is caught cheating tires.

The 2017 season marks the 26th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing across the United States for the American Sprint Car Series. The 2017 season will see over 140 dates across ASCS National and Regional lineups.
