I-80 Deep Freeze , Spring Meltdown Delayed!

Spring Meltdown Update

After spending a great deal of time studying the weather forecast (which is something we don't like to do) and seeing the low temperatures forecasted to be in the mid 20’s, wind gusts at the 20 mph range, for next weekend (April 1 & 2), we have decided to cancel the Spring Meltdown. This will be the first time in ten years that we have had to do this. We are doing this early so that all racers and fans planning on attending this event can make other plans.

There are a number of reasons that we reached this decision. First, we are very concerned about our exposed water lines to the bathrooms and concession areas. With a forecast low in the 20's and 30 mph wind gusts there is a real possibility that the weather would freeze our water lines if we were to activate it. It is currently turned off and winterized at the present time.

Secondly, we are worried about providing the drivers a good racing surface as without a full water system we may not been able to properly prepare the race track. We also want the drivers, crews and fans to enjoy the races and with low temperatures and gusty winds this does not make for an enjoyable situation.

Unfortunately we will not be able to reschedule the Spring Meltdown as the MLRA is racing at Lucas Oil Speedway the following week and the week after that we will not race against the IceBreaker at Eagle Raceway as we have an agreement that if they do not race against our Spring Meltdown and Bugeater Bash we will not race against their Icebreaker.

All entry fees paid by drivers and tickets purchased by fans for the event will be refunded to their credit cards with the exception of one day for the sprint cars. The practice scheduled for Thursday, March 31 has been moved to Thursday, April 7. The Nebraska 360 Sprint Cars Series has been rescheduled for one night of the Bugeater Bash on Saturday, April 9 with the same $2000 to win purse as was scheduled at the spring meltdown.

Many of the Dirt Late Model drivers that would have been at the Spring Meltdown will be returning to I-80 Speedway for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series GO 50 on Tuesday, May 24. They will return for the MLRA/CBC/MARS Alphabet Soup race on Friday, June 24 and then the Silver Dollar Nationals from July 21 thru 23. The A Mods will be running at the Bugeater Bash on April 8 & 9 as well as throughout the season.

Tickets are available for all races at; http://i-80speedway.com/i80/schedule/weekly/

We hope this cancellation does not inconvenience anyone but we believe given the forecast it is the best decision for all parties concerned that we cancel early.
