Inside Line Promotions – VENTURA, Calif. (Sept. 28, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi has momentum on his side coming off another strong weekend with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.

Scelzi registered a pair of top-10 results to extend his streak to four straight races. He now has five finishes in the top seven in seven races since returning from a back injury earlier this month.

“We had a really, really strong weekend,” he said. “We were one of the fastest cars throughout the weekend. I was happy for the way the weekend went. Our confidence is definitely up.”

Scelzi opened the weekend on Friday at Santa Maria Raceway in Santa Maria, Calif., where he qualified sixth quickest before winning a heat race to lock his Roth Motorsports entry into the dash.

“We unloaded and had a really good idea what the track was going to do,” he said. “We followed the race track all night. It was really fast and hooked up and rough.”

Scelzi drew the highest number – eight – during the dash redraw, which lined him up on the outside of the fourth row. However, he picked up a pair of positions in the dash to finish sixth.

“We were able to get to sixth, which was really big because there wasn’t much passing,” he said. “In the feature we got to fourth pretty quickly and rode there until a restart about halfway. We were able to get to second going out of turn two. Then it took us 15 laps to run down Kyle (Hirst).”

Scelzi tracked down Hirst in traffic and made a bid for the lead on the final lap.

“Earlier in the main I was able to make the bottom work and run it pretty hard,” he said. “Once it looked like he had an issue I drove it in there for all it was worth. We put a big move on him in turns three and four on the last lap, but came up a few feet short.”

Scelzi’s runner-up result marked his 15th top five of the season.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Ventura Raceway, where Scelzi qualified second quickest. He then rebounded in his heat race from an early crash, which resulted in him landing on his side, to post a fourth-place result to lock his team into the dash.

“There was no passing going on in the dash,” he said. “We went from seventh to sixth. The top was the best place to start in the feature. We got to fifth right away and ran there the entire race. There was a late restart and we had to start on the bottom so we dropped two spots to seventh.”

Scelzi ended with a seventh-place finish.

This week he is headed to the Midwest to drive for George Lasoski on Friday and Saturday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., for the Fearsome 410 Finale with the FVP National Sprint League.

“I can’t wait for this weekend,” Scelzi said. ““We’re hoping to get two good nights of racing in and come away with two strong performances.”
