Bacon Looks to Double Dip at Western World

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (November 1, 2018) – Regardless of the host track, Arizona’s Western World Championships have historically treated Brady Bacon quite well.

“The Macho Man” hopes to continue that run of success with this weekend’s 51st Annual Western World Championships at San Tan Valley’s Arizona Speedway.

Bacon will be pulling double-duty on both Friday and Saturday competing in the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car portion of the card as well as the 360-ci USAC Southwest Sprint Car portion.

“I think including preliminaries, we’ve won eight or nine out there,” Bacon says. “I don’t think we’ve been outside of the top three in the 360. Arizona has always been good for us, so hopefully we can continue that.”

The two-time USAC Sprint Car champion enters the weekend ranked fourth in points with only next weekend’s Oval Nationals at California’s Perris Auto Speedway remaining on the 2018 Sprint Car slate.

Bacon heads west for the month of November following a rare idle weekend that was preceded by the USAC Midget “Jason Leffler Memorial” at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, IL, on Sunday, October 21.

After a heat race win and a fourth-place run in his qualifier, Bacon finished out the night in 16th after starting the feature in sixth.

“We were pretty good early, then as the night went on we just weren’t quite as good,” Bacon says. “The top was slow for the first couple of laps of the feature and we got shuffled back to ninth. And the way the track was, it was hard to make up ground. We got to racing with three or four cars and one of them got sideways, I had to stall the car to keep from getting into him.”

A pair of Midget events await in California after the next two weekends of Sprint Car action including a November 17 stop at Bakersfield and then the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ventura on November 22.

But first, there is Sprint Car business to tend to beginning with this weekend’s Western World Championships at Arizona Speedway.
