Plymouth's Bob Newton Classic Welcomes USAC Indiana Midgets Friday

The USAC Indiana Midget Championship kicks off its inaugural season this Friday night, May 13, in the “Bob Newton Classic” at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway; an event that also features the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars at the 3/8-mile dirt oval.

The event takes place just one year after USAC made its first ever visit to the track after its surface was converted to dirt. Cullman, Alabama's Kevin Thomas, Jr. won that USAC National Midget race held in May 2015.

This Friday’s race marks a return for regional dirt midget racing sanctioned by USAC after a five-year absence. The last event, a D1 Midget race held at Kokomo Speedway in October of 2011, was won by Tracy Hines.

The eight-race Indiana Midget Championship schedule consists of a variety of tracks in the Hoosier state with the first of four-straight Plymouth visits to open the season beginning this Friday, before the “Hump Day Summer Series” makes its debut with dates at the northern Indiana track on June 29, July 20 and August 31. Daugherty Speedway in Boswell (Sept. 10), Montpelier Motor Speedway (Sept. 17), Gas City I-69 Speedway (Sept. 30) and Kokomo Speedway (Oct. 14) hosts the remainder of the series schedule.

The "Bob Newton Classic" gets underway with grandstands and pit gates open at 4pm. The drivers’ meeting is schedule to take place 5:45pm with hot laps at 6pm and racing set for 7pm. General admission tickets are $35.00 for adults, $15.00 for kids age 6-12 and free for children 5 and under. Pit passes can be purchased for $40.00.
