1 POINT SEPARATES ABREU & CLAUSON; HINES INJURED

The 2015 USAC Indiana Midget Week concludes this coming Sunday at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway after rains and wet grounds forced postponement of last Sunday’s scheduled closer at the 1/4-mile dirt oval.

Rico Abreu leads Bryan Clauson by a single point heading into the final event after four consecutive races in four nights.

Three Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian drivers captured victories last week and Bryan Clauson accounted for the other win.

Tanner Thorson of Minden, Nev. notched his initial USAC feature win in Wednesday’s opener at Gas City I-69 Speedway. He led all 30 laps in the Toyota/TRD Bullet/Speedway Toyota to beat Clauson, Spencer Bayston, Justin Grant and Abreu.

Clauson, of Noblesville, Ind., put the RKR/Curb-Agajanian Curb Records/Dooling Machine Spike/SR11 Mopar in victory lane Thursday at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. He fought off Abreu on lap 22 and led the last nine laps to beat Christopher Bell, Tracy Hines, Abreu and Jerry Coons Jr.

Bell, of Norman, Okla. outduelled teammate Kevin Thomas Jr. for the win at Bloomington Speedway Friday, leading the final nine laps after passing Thomas on lap 22 in his Toyota/TRD Bullet/Speedway Toyota. Thomas took second ahead of Clauson, Abreu and Coons.

Abreu, of Rutherford, Calif., captured Saturday’s 30-lapper at Lawrenceburg Speedway after passing Coons on lap 21. Tyler Thomas took second ahead of Clauson, Kevin Thomas Jr. and Chase Stockon.

Honda National Midget Series point leader Tracy Hines suffered a broken collarbone in a flip during Saturday’s feature at Lawrenceburg. Following surgery today, he hopes to be back in time for next Sunday’s Midget race at Kokomo.

ProSource fast qualifiers during Indiana Midget Week were Hines (Gas City), Thorson (Putnamville) and Abreu (Bloomington and Lawrenceburg). B & W Auto Mart hard chargers were Tyler Thomas (3) and Christopher Bell. Auto Racing Ministries Perseverance awards went to Chett Gehrke (2) and Tony DiMattia.
