Oklahoma’s Trey Marcham Claims USAC-Western States Rookie Laurels

Oklahoma young gun Trey Marcham battled many of the best Midget racers in the West and the country in 2013 en route to claiming the USAC-Western States Midget Rookie-of-the-Year laurels, despite running a partial schedule.
Driving the McQueen Racing #37 Spike/Esslinger by Duane McQueen, Marcham impressed veteran peers all season, passing many cars with poise and patience beyond his years. Marcham claimed five Top 10s, three Top fives, one main event win and one Heat race win in his debut Midget season and claimed ninth in the USAC-WS overall Midget standings and tenth in the USAC-WS Dirt standings.

Trey’s final Midget race of the year came at the 73rd Annual Turkey Night Midget Grand Prix where he competed against the best racers in the World in one of the most fabled racing events in the country. After starting at the rear of the field (32nd) after suffering a broken brake hub in the first qualifying race, Marcham worked his way from a provisional starting position into the top 15 before retiring as the engine began overheating with five laps remaining.

Marcham claimed his first Midget win on August 10, 2013 at the 3/8-mile Petaluma Speedway in Bay Cities Racing Association Midget action, dominating the field in a decisive green-to-checkered main event in which he moved from sixth to first by the second lap and claimed the win by an entire straightaway in a record seven minutes, 38 seconds, taking the win over drivers with several years and main event wins under their belt – in his first-ever appearance at the track.

Showing versatility, in addition to his success on Dirt bullrings in open-wheel action in the Midget, Marcham performed a clean sweep on pavement, sweeping a pair of Late Model features at Myrtle Beach Speedway in July where he scored his first and second career Late Model Stock Car wins.
Marcham would like to thank McQueen Racing for the opportunity and experience of contending for the Western States rookie crown and for allowing Trey to compete against many of the best Midget racers in a competitive manner.

Marcham, a senior Engineering student at Oklahoma University, with over 11 years of experience in Micro Sprints, Ford Focus Midgets, 360 Non-Wing Sprint Cars and asphalt Late Models, has shown amazing poise and talent in limited Midget starts in the McQueen Racing entry earlier this year. Marcham has been seen passing drivers with thousands more laps and experience than he in a Midget. Marcham has amassed six Championships at I-44 Riverside Speedway in Newcastle, Oklahoma, as well as having claimed both the A-Class and Non-wing A-Mains at the Inaugural Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial/Race4Life in Tulsa in 2012. Marcham has compiled several wins and podium finishes in 2013.
