Amantea Earns First-Ever Top Five in 410 Non-Wing Sprint Car

Inside Line Promotions – IMPERIAL, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2022) – Joey Amantea recorded his first career top-five finish in a 410ci non-wing sprint car last Friday during a Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series event at Latrobe Speedway.

Amantea finished where he started – third – in a heat race during his debut at the dirt oval in Latrobe, Pa. That lined him up on the inside of the third row in the A Main.

“I was running more of the slider line and it was working,” he said. “The track was a little difficult to pass in certain spots. I fell back to sixth and picked off two cars. We had a shot at the end there to get second place really. I reeled in second and third and just needed a couple more laps. The car was super fast. I’m really happy because looking at the results of the top five I have the least experience and three are USAC national drivers so it was really cool to be racing with those guys competitively.”

Amantea’s fourth-place outing was his 10th total top five of the season.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, where Amantea placed fifth in a heat race to garner the 13th starting spot in the main event.

“I fell back to 15th at one point and gained my spots back before ultimately finishing 12th,” he said. “Once I got into a rhythm I tracked down some guys in front of me, but it was super hard to pass. The track was super slick. My lack of experience and overdriving the car didn’t help.”

Next up for the team will be a Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars event this Saturday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa.

“This will be our first show at Bedford this year,” Amantea said. “I believe we got fifth and 10th there last year so I’m looking for another solid run.”

Amantea enters the race ranked fourth in the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars championship standings.
