Paul Nienhiser Second at US36

PETERSEN MEDIA: Though rain hindered a lot of tracks in the Midwest again over the weekend, Paul Nienhiser was able to get in two nights of racing as he finished second on Friday night at US36 Raceway before issues running second at Tri-State Speedway on Saturday ended his night early.

“Friday night was a lot of fun battling with Terry McCarl,” Paul Nienhiser said. “We played a little cat and mouse for most of the second half of the race, but he was able to do it better than I was and we ended up second.”

With 29 cars checked in for a night of racing action, Nienhiser would have a tough heat race draw as he lined the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design machine up seventh for his heat.

On a racy surface, the Chapin, IL driver was able to pick up enough positions to move into the feature event redraw by way of his fourth place finish.

Finding himself with the five pill, Nienhiser would take the green flag from the third row. Continuing to make great adjustments to his machine, Nienhiser felt like he could go anywhere on the track, and it was apparent as he soon found himself in second and on Terry McCarl’s rear bumper.

Getting into the lead on the 13th lap, a lap 14 red flag would put McCarl back on his rear bumper. The restart would see McCarl get back by Nienhiser, and the duo would then hook up in an entertaining battle for much of the duration of the race.

In the final laps, the two would battle in heavy traffic, but Nienhiser just couldn’t make any late race heroics happen as he hung on to finish second.

Making the long trip to Tri-State Speedway on Saturday night for MOWA action, Nienhiser and his team would just barely make it, and actually used wheel pack and motor heat for a leak check.

Continuing to show some great speed, Nienhiser would advance from fourth to win his heat race going away as he would be high point guy heading into the redraw.

Find himself with the three pill, Nienhiser would roll off the starting grid from the second row, though would quickly move into second but a caution would fall and negate his pass.

Continuing to run in third, Nienhiser would pressure for second, but as fate would have it, he would get used up a bit and it would end his night.

“We were really fast all weekend long, and that feels pretty good especially with how off and on we have raced due to weather,’ Nienhiser said. “Hoping to get a bunch of racing in this weekend, and hoping the weather plays nice. Thanks to everyone who helps and supports us.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.
