Dupo, IL (April 23, 2018) This past weekend, Kyle Schuett and his Schuett Racing team headed to the St. Louis area to compete with the POWRi National Midget League at two of the best tracks in the area. Friday night, 40 of the best midget drivers in the Midwest signed in for the first of several races this season at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Illinois. Following the “Little Belleville” opener was the first of three visits this season to Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri.
Kyle’s Friday night in Belleville began with a second to first place run in heat race action. With passing points being crucial in the POWRi racing format, Kyle’s great heat win put him fifth overall in points out of the 40 competitors in action. This also put him lining up fifth in the 30-lap A-main event. Continuing to get used to his new Bullet by Spike Chassis, Kyle’s A-main was cut short when he made contact with the interior wall and damaged the front end, resulting in a 22nd place finish for the evening. While the A-main results are not what he and the team hoped for, Kyle was able to pick up his first heat race win of the season against some tough competition and once again gain valuable seat time in his new car.
Saturday night marked a return to the I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri; the track where Kyle earned a huge A-main win in 2017. Running alongside the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars, another stellar field of 39 POWRi National Midgets took to the fast and high-banked Pevely facility. In heat race action, Kyle started fourth and moved forward to a third-place finish. Based on passing points, Kyle was 16th overall and lined up 16th in the 30-lap A-main event. As the green flag waved, Kyle began working his way through traffic. With tire wear being critical Saturday night, Kyle was able manage his tires, yet also move forward as laps clicked away. Several caution flags for racers with flat tires would slow the action on multiple occasions. By the halfway point of the race, Kyle had moved into 10th and was still looking for more. As the checkered flag flew, Kyle crossed the line with a hard fought eighth-place finish.
In just the few nights out so far this season, Kyle has continued to get faster and more comfortable each time he has hit the race track. Kyle is extremely happy with his new Bullet by Spike Chassis but says it has a different feel from his prior cars so it is taking some getting used to. As of right now, the team is working on a schedule for the 2018 season and will continue to provide updates as to where Kyle will be next via its Facebook page.
Kyle would like to send a big thank you to all the fans that came out to Belleville and Pevely this past weekend. While driving the car is great, Kyle also enjoys getting to meet new fans and spend time with the kids that come by to see the race car. Kyle and the Schuett Racing team would also like to thank all the team’s sponsors and partners that make racing possible.
