Dupo, IL (September 13, 2017) There are a few weekends in midget racing that have been around longer that many of today’s midget racing stars, this past weekend at Jacksonville Speedway and Spoon River Speedway is one of those weekends. The Herb Barlow Memorial and the Tom Knowles Memorial have been staple races in the Illinois midget racing scene for well over 20 years now. For Kyle Schuett and his Schuett Racing team, this marks the third year that Kyle has been able to take part in this historic weekend. Earning an eighth-place finish on Friday night marked another top ten finish for Kyle this year and he still has a lot of racing left to go.

On Friday night, 28 POWRi National Midget League competitors signed in to do battle at the Jacksonville Speedway. In heat race action Kyle started fourth and moved forward to a second-place finish, earning himself crucial passing points. Based on those points, Kyle lined up his Health Alliance sponsored DRC Chassis fifth in the 30-lap A-main event. Struggling with handling a bit, Kyle slipped back to an eighth-place finish and while not what he hoped for, it was still a great top ten finish against the best in midget racing.

On Saturday, the team headed north to Spoon River Speedway. Set out in the middle of nowhere, Spoon River Speedway provides some excellent high speed racing for the POWRi midgets. In hot laps and the heat race that night, Kyle felt the motor was just a little off from what it normally felt like. After the heat race, the team decided to pull the oil filter and were a little skeptical with what they saw. Rather than risk potential serious damage, the Schuett Racing team made the decision to call it quits for the night and wait until they could further diagnose the possible motor issues. Following the weekend, the team immediately began working with the great people at Stanton Racing Engines and Kyle plans to be back on track in a short amount of time.

It has been the tail of two seasons for the Schuett Racing team. After struggling early in the season, the team made a few changes which have made a world of difference. Kyle and his Schuett Racing team would like to thank Gary Stanton and the Stanton Racing Engines team for the excellent customer service this week and also thank everyone who has helped make the 2017 season possible.
