SAPULPA, Okla. (May 9, 2017) With the plan to run double duty this past Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in ASCS Regional and POWRi Midgets competition, three rounds into Hot Laps signaled the end of Blake Hahn’s Sprint Car hopes as a problem in the valve-train put Hahn’s focus solely on his Toyota powered Midget.

“We didn’t even get the car dirty before the Sprint Car was done. We’re not sure how it happened, but one of the Rocker Arm studs stripped out so we were down a cylinder. We thought about swapping engines, but decided to just run the Midget since it wasn’t a national show and we weren’t racing for points,” commented Hahn.

A part of a stout field of 51 Lucas Oil POWRi National Midgets, Blake’s Heat Race ended with a runner-up result. Putting Hahn fourth in the A-Feature lineup, the lead was Blake’s by the end of the first lap.

“I just put it on the top and went for it. The car felt awesome and I really thought we could win it, but I messed up trying to protect the bottom on Lap 2. I saw [Tyler] Thomas and tried to move down and when I did, I clipped an infield tire and had to go to the back.”

With 28 laps to make something happen, Hahn began his march through the field.

“I was mad and running anywhere they weren’t,” said Hahn. “I knew I had a car capable of winning so I was determined to get back to the front. I caught a couple luck breaks with cautions that allowed me to throw a few big sliders. I think at one point, we passed five cars in one corner so the car was dialed in so for that, I have to give a special thanks to Rusty Kunz. He couldn’t make it, but we were able to call and get advice on what we needed to do. His expertise is beyond words.”

Pulling the engine out of the Sprint Car for repair at Wesmar on Monday, the Lucas Oil / Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 will be in action at Lakeside Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network on Thursday, May 11.

In 2016, Hahn led most of the A-Feature at Lakeside but came up short to Brian Brown. The team also plans on hitting up ASCS Regional action at Humboldt Speedway on Friday and Springfield Raceway on Saturday.
