2017 UMSS Traditional Sprint Car Season Has 28 Shows

The UMSS Traditional Sprint Car Series is set to kick off their seventh season of non-winged sprint car racing with a doubleheader at the Cedar Lake Speedway on Friday and Saturday April 7-8. With a favorable weather outlook, the 28-event season should get underway as scheduled and will conclude over five months later at the Deer Creek Speedway on September 16. Nearly half the shows (13) are slated to take place at Cedar Lake with three appearances at the Red Cedar Speedway, two shows at Rice Lake Speedway and single appearances at Eagle Valley Speedway, Hibbing Raceway, Proctor Speedway, Ogilvie Raceway Granite City Speedway, Upper Iowa Speedway, Clay County Fair Speedway and Deer Creek also on tap. The series will return for two non-point shows on Labor Day Weekend in southern Wisconsin at Wilmot Raceway and Angell Park Speedway. The final Cedar Lake show on September 14 at the Legendary 100 will also be a non-point event.

The UMSS winged sprints will join the Traditional Sprints on twelve occasions throughout the season. The Traditional Sprints will also race three times with the IRA Outlaw 410 Sprints and once with the World of Outlaws. The popular non-winged series will make appearances for the first time at three tracks including Eagle Valley, Upper Iowa and Clay County. The Upper Iowa Speedway and Clay County Fair races will be the first-ever appearance in the state of Iowa for the Traditional Sprints as well.

UMSS President Ron Bernhagen also announced that the 2017 Traditional Sprint Car Series will crown a 2017 champion. The point championship will be determined in 25 point shows during the season. The three non-point races mentioned above will not count towards the championship. The remaining twenty five shows will use the standard UMSS feature race point procedure and no races will be thrown out. Long-time series sponsor GRP Motorsports is still working to determine if there will be a certain number of races, like in the UMSS winged sprint division, for a point fund. Look for further details in a separate press release during the season. If there is a select number of races, it likely will not start until early July and run for 10-12 shows.

Look for further details on some of the special shows as the season gets underway and those events take shape. Given the fact that Mother Nature seems to win several shows each season, a few schedule changes could take place should it become necessary.
