Bradwell Blasts To SCVR Opener Victory

Defending UMSS Traditional Sprint Car Series (TSCS) Champion, Kevin "Rocketman" Bradwell, blasted away from the field enroute to victory at his home track St. Croix Valley Raceway on Friday evening May 18. In the second race of the young TSCS season, Bradwell became the second winner after Rob Caho, Jr. took the season opener last Sunday at the Dodge County Speedway. For Bradwell, it was his third TSCS career win. Commenting after the race on his victory Bradwell stated, "The car was really good in the feature race. I'm not sure if anybody was running a lower line than me out there, but I was able to keep a good steady pace around the bottom. It feels good to get a win on the board at my home track." Bradwell resides just up the road in Luck, Wisconsin.

Bradwell took full advantage of his pole starting position to lead the opening lap of the feature race. Johnny Parsons III edged ahead of Bradwell on lap two, but Bradwell drove back underneath Parsons one lap later and never looked back. Parsons swapped the second spot with Rob Caho, Jr. a couple of times before finally settling into the runner-up position with two to go. Caho, who was without brakes after the opening lap, was a close third at the line. Behind the lead trio in fourth was rookie TSCS driver Ryan Olson in his first sprint car start ever followed by veteran racer Jack Clark in fifth. Olson and Clark waged a good battle for several laps. Also swapping spots on several occasions were the sixth and seventh place finishers Kevin Nickel and Brad Nelson. Nickel has winged sprint car experience but was also making his first non-winged start in a sprinter. Nelson was making only his third start of his career. Another ageless racing veteran, Tom Porter, rounded out the field.

The feature race went 20 laps nonstop with all cars finishing. Heat race wins went to Caho and Parsons. The TSCS sprints continue their attempt at a triple race weekend with shows on Saturday May 19 at the Cedar Lake Speedway and Sunday May 20 at the Dodge County Speedway.
