2nd at 34 Raceway Highlights Paul Nienhiser's Return to Racing

PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard a winged sprint car for the first time since November’s World Finals in Charlotte, NC, Paul Nienhiser would get back to work over the Memorial Day Weekend as he battled with the World of Outlaws in Pevely, MO before recording a second place finish at 34 Raceway.

“Aside from Chili Bowl, it was my first laps in racecar all year long,” Paul Nienhiser said. “Our base package was pretty similar to what we have been running, and luckily Friday night I was able to get us into a heat out of time trials and get us going.”

With 63 cars in the pit area, Nienhiser would time the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design backed No. 9x machine in 20th quickest, good enough to move him into a heat race.

Lining up 10th in his heat race, the Chapin, IL driver would finish ninth which sent him into the ‘B’ Main. Lining up in the eighth row of the semi, Nienhiser would need to work his way into the Top-Four if we wanted to move into the feature event.

Able to make a little headway and make some moves, Nienhiser’s 12th place finish in the semi would bring his return to racing to a close.

Back at I-55 Raceway on Saturday night, an extremely slick racing surface would greet competitors early in the program and Nienhiser would time in 13th fastest and again move straight into a heat race.

Starting and finishing seventh in his heat, Nienhiser would fail to make the direct transfer into the feature event, and would again find himself in the night’s ‘B’ Main.

Getting a good jump at the start of the ‘B’, Nienhiser would surge into a transfer spot only to the see the yellow lights turn on and negate his early progress. The next attempted start would go a bit different for Nienhiser and he would find himself buried inside the Top-10.

Able to fight his way up to eighth, Nienhiser would again bring his night to an early end following the semi.

Shifting gears on Sunday night, Nienhiser would travel to Burlington, IA where he would hop in Scott Bonar’s No. 50 machine.

Lining up 10th in his heat race, Nienhiser would put on quite the show and tabulate a ton of passing points as he worked his way forward and into the second position when the checkered flag flew.

Sitting atop the event point standings following heat race’s, Nienhiser would pull the four pill in the redraw and line up in the second row for the nightly dash. Finishing third, the inversion draw would put Nienhiser in the third row for the 25-lap feature event.

From his third row starting position, Nienhiser would continue to showcase an extremely strong entry as he got up into second and began the challenge race leader, Kyle Offill.

Trying to find a way past Offill, incidental contact would occur between the two drivers but they would keep on their way as Ninehiser continued to run in second. Not going away easily, Nienhiser would be unable to by Offill and capped his night with a second-place finish.

“Sunday night we were really good all night long, and I have to thank Scott Bonar for the opportunity to run his car again,” Nienhiser said. “I hate that we still have not been able to get him a win, but we are really fast, and I am hopeful we can get back to racing soon.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.
