Bill Balog
Back in the Saddle Again!!
Bristol, WI – July 9, 2014. Bill Balog vacated the seat of the potent 17B sprinter this past weekend and piloted two other potent cars. Last Thursday, Bill headed to the Iowa State Fair Speedway in Des Moines, IA to pilot the Jimmy Davies #99 360 sprinter with the Sprint Invaders series. The night started off with a 2nd place run in his heat race and then followed that up by parking the #99 in victory lane after winning the Shake Up Dash. Bill would line up in the 3rd starting position in the feature and quickly made his way into the 2nd position. On lap two, a steering malfunction occurred sidelining Bill the remainder of the feature as there is no work area with the Sprint Invader series.
Saturday night, Bill piloted the Lein Acres #2 for night #1 of the Pepsi Nationals at the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI. The night started off by laying down the 14th fastest lap of the thirty cars on hand setting him up with a 3rd place starting position in the heat race. Bill maintained his position for most of the heat race, but lost some ground just past the half-way point and fell out of a transfer position sending him to the B-Main. Starting in the 6th position, Bill made his way forward to the 3rd position hanging right with the leaders transferring him to a 13th place starting position in the feature. Bill struggled to find speed in the feature as the car didn’t seem to have the speed that the leaders had finishing the night in the 16th position.
Back in Sun Prairie on Sunday for the final night of the Pepsi Nationals, Bill would post the 16th fastest lap in qualifying of the twenty-five returning cars setting him up with a pole starting position in the heat race. Bill would be bested by the weekend dominator of Christopher Bell in the heat race and would finish 2nd transferring into the feature. Lining up 16th in the feature, Bill would advance six positions to finish in the 10th position at the features end.
This weekend, “The Northpole Nightmare” is back in the saddle of the 17B sprinter as he leads the Interstate Racing Association to Wisconsin’s “Horsepower Half-Mile” of the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, WI. Last year Bill lowered the track record to 16.211 seconds which was set back in 2004. He followed that up with a heat race victory and parking in victory lane after winning the feature. Saturday night the team will head north to Bill’s family’s hometown track as he will take on the high banks of the Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, WI. Bill has won the last two shows at the Rice Lake Speedway.
The following weekend the team will head to Wilmot Raceway to take on the traveling All Stars and the IRA followed by the first visit in twenty-nine years to the Angell Park Speedway on Sunday night.
