Jamey Ogston Makes It Two Straight At Cedar Lake
Jamey Ogston continued his winning ways in UMSS POWRi Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series feature race action, as the young Duluth driver picked up his second straight win in the last two shows at the Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday night July 28. Just two weeks following his second career winged sprint car win, Ogston returned to Rock Auto Victory Lane at Cedar Lake to celebrate his third career victory. The win also kept him in contention for the UMSS POWRi Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series championship. Ogston currently sit in third in the standings behind Ryan Bowers and Chase Viebrock.
A slim field of just seven winged sprints for the UMSS show, meant just one heat race would be run along with the Wing of the Hill challenge. Two-time series champion Ryan Bowers blew the field away for the Pirtek Fluid Transfer Solutions heat win. In the Rock Auto Wing of the Hill head-to-head competition, Justin Henderson, driving the Donnohue Designs Racing car, won three times before Ogston defeated him. In the final round, Bowers beat Ogston to earn the pole starting spot for the 20 lap feature race.
It was Ogston edging past Bowers on the opening lap for the early lead. Bowers took a look a couple of times, but Ogston held him off. Following a spin by rookie Carter Chevalier with seven laps scored, Geoff Dodge, driving the Seidenkranz Brothers winged sprint, began to make his presence felt. Dodge moved up to second and closed in on Ogston. Just a couple of car lengths back and trying hard to gain on the leader, Dodge looped his car in turn four 15 laps into the race, effectively ending his bid for the win. Ogston led the final five circuits to defeat Bowers, Henderson, Dodge, Viebrock, Harry Hanson and Chevalier.
The UMSS POWRi Lucas Oil winged sprints have a couple of weekends off before returning to action at the Ogilvie Raceway on Saturday August 18 for the running of the 7th Annual Davey Tabor Memorial. The race is also a Midwest Power Series event sponsored by Mastell Brothers Trailer Service for their 30th Anniversary celebration at the track. The POWRi Lucas Oil Traditional sprint cars will join with the winged division at Ogilvie. A strong field of cars is expected to be on hand in both divisions, as added money in the purse by Margaret Tabor for both divisions along with Midwest Power Series money in the winged division will allow racers to earn some extra cash. Racers and fans can keep track of all the UMSS POWRi Lucas Oil winged sprint car action on our website at www.umsprints.com or on the UMSS Facebook page.
