Southern Ontario Sprints
Former SOS Champion and Vice-President Garry Evans passes on.
Former SOS Champion and Vice-President Garry Evans as passed away February 8, 2019 at the age of 66.  Garry a long time supermodified racer started with sprint cars and the Southern Ontario Sprints in 1997 after a bad crash in the super at Berlin Speedway in Michigan. He only started one race in 97 but finished with a strong 2nd place in his sprint car debut.
1998 saw Garry compete in all 11 SOS races that year. Capturing his first sprint car victory at South Buxton Raceway. Garry raced hard all season and in the end was crowned 1998 Southern Ontario Sprints Champion. Garry was also technically Rookie of the Year as well, however he elected not to receive that award and instead passed it on to Dick Mahoney who he had battled with all season.
Garry was also active in all areas of racing and the direction it would take in Southern Ontario. He was elected to the position of Vice President of the Southern Ontario sprints by his peers and fellow racers.
Garrys presence around the speedways of Ontario will truly be missed. And the Southern Ontario Sprints are honored to have had Garry as a competitor, member, and friend.
