WESTBROOK WRANGLES ANOTHER WIN AT BRIGHTON SPEEDWAY

By Greg Calnan (Brighton, Ontario) – The Southern Ontario Sprints took to the track for their third visit of the season at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night. Dylan Westbrook continued his dominant season with his second win of the year at the 1/3 mile clay oval.

Shawn and Josh Sliter led the 16 car field to the green flag in race six of the 2017 season. Shawn jumped out to the early lead with Josh close behind. The top five drivers broke away from the pack as both Sliter’s along with Rick Wilson, Josh Shantz and Westbrook ran wheel to wheel for first ten laps. The group had an exciting battle for the lead with different lanes being used by each driver.

On lap 10 Wilson used the outside line to get by Sliter, however his lead was short lived as the car slid up the track in corner one. Westbrook moved by Sliter and then Wilson to take control of the race and lead the final 15 circuits.

The hard charger in the 25 lap race was Charlie Sandercock as the Belleville, Ontario driver started 12th and worked his way into the top three by lap 19. The race was slowed by three cautions with the worst incident occurring when Josh Shantz hit the turn four wall. He rejoined the race, but was unable to challenge competitively after the contact.

For Westbrook the win marked his eleventh win with the Southern Ontario Sprints in the tours last twelve events. His fourth win of the season extended his point lead with just six races remaining.
