STYRES COLLECTS SECOND BRIGHTON WIN OF 2015

by Greg Calnan (Saturday, July 11, 2015) – Brighton, Ontario – The second half of the 20th season of Southern Ontario Sprints racing got underway at Brighton Speedway on Saturday. 18 drivers entered to compete in the 7th event of 2015. Glenn Styres collected his series-leading third win of the year over Mitch Brown and Dain Naida.

Styres and Kyle Fraser led the field to the green flag in the 25 lap feature. “The Ohsweken Flyer� drove to the early advantage and paced the field for the first 5 laps, while Brown moved quickly to 2nd from his 4th starting position until a caution for Mike Ferrell slowed the race. Brown restarted third, but quickly disposed of Fraser and set his sights on Styres.

The two drivers traded lines with Styres leading, and Brown a close second. Charlie Sandercock, fresh off a Late Model win just moments before the SOS feature, moved into the third spot and challenged Brown for the runner-up position.

A lap 10 caution for a spin by April Wilson tightened the pack, however Styres was able to rocket away from Brown on the restart, while Dain Naida made his presence felt by chasing Sandercock down for third. Naida grabbed the spot, and was able to hold on despite slapping the front-stretch wall in the closing laps and damaging his car.

The third caution flag of the race flew on lap 18, and gave Brown one final chance to get by Styres. He managed to draw to the left rear tire, but could get no closer as Styres drove on to his 3rd SOS win of the season, and 4th Sprint Car win in his last 5 starts.

With his 2nd place finish, Brown maintained the championship points lead with 5 races remaining on the schedule. Brown has yet to finish outside of the top 3 in the first 7 races of the season with 2 wins, a runner-up finish, and 4 third place finishes. Naida, Sandercock, and Cory Turner completed the top five.
