Williamson Hustles to Best ASCS Finish of His Career in Oklahoma
Inside Line Promotions – POCOLA, Okla. (June 2, 2020) – Garet Williamson just needed more laps and a little more experience to perform up to his expectations.
On the second day of a two-race weekend, Williamson saw what valuable track time can produce as he stormed from 17th to second in an ASCS Sooner Region event at Tri-State Speedway on Saturday. It was the best result of the season for the 20-year-old Bryant Paver Motorsports driver and his best ever in ASCS competition.
“It was awesome,” he said. “It’s been a long time coming from where we started this year; just knowing we’ve had a good car and putting the pieces together.
“We set ourselves up good for the night. We started deep, had a good car all night even though we had to run the B Main. We were hoping to finish in the top 10, but we kept plugging away at it and got ourselves on the podium.”
Williamson was decent in his heat race, but it was tough to move forward as he placed fifth. The car was equally good in the B Main, in which a third-place run earned a transfer.
Williamson felt confident going into the 25-lap main event. The race went green and he piloted the Bryant Paver Motorsports machine past his fellow competitors one by one. Blake Hahn ended up getting the win, but Williamson stole the show in his best effort of the 2020 season. His 15 positions gained earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars as well.
“We didn’t change a whole lot,” he said. “We just got in a good rhythm. I felt the car under me and was running where they weren’t. I had a really good car all night.”
The march at Tri-State Speedway was a good way to end the weekend, especially with what transpired Friday night at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.
Williamson showed speed in the B Main, but the engine had a hiccup so the team decided to start and park in the main event. It was later discovered that that they had a cracked exhaust gasket.
None of that mattered Saturday. Williamson showed what he can do and built some much-needed momentum heading into a race this Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo.
“It’s huge just knowing that our team can perform at that level and we can go run with whoever,” he said. “It’s big going into the next race knowing that everything is there and knowing we can do it. If you do it every night, the results should be there.”
