Bacon Set for USAC Sprintacular after Picking off Fifth Win of the Year Last Weekend
Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (July 5, 2018) – It’s back to Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car action for Brady Bacon and the Brady Bacon Racing No. 99 Sprint Car team with Friday night’s fourth running of the “Bill Gardner Sprintacular” at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, IN.
With a pair of series wins to his credit thus far in 2018, the two-time USAC Sprint Car champion sits a close sixth in points going into Friday night’s Lincoln Park tilt in which the No. 99 entry that will feature The Joie of Seating logo in this weekend’s livery.
Bacon will round out the weekend by making a return trip home to race at Tulsa’s Port City Raceway on Sunday night in Micro Sprint Car competition.
Bacon comes off a weekend in which he added his fifth overall win of the season in non-wing 410-ci action at Lawrenceburg Speedway last Saturday night after racing to a fourth-place finish with the wing on in Friday night’s All Star Circuit of Champions main event at Indiana’s Plymouth Speedway.
“It was a good weekend for us, we’ve been good in the winged car lately and then Saturday was a nice reunion and win with the Hoffmans,” Bacon commented.
Last weekend’s double began with what was only Bacon’s ninth winged 410-ci Sprint Car start of the season in All Stars competition at Plymouth Speedway. And the Broken Arrow, OK, native made the most of it by winning his heat race and then finishing fifth in the Dash to start the feature inside the third row.
From there, Bacon drove on to a strong fourth-place finish.
“We were going good, but once everyone got strung out on the top, it was hard to make up much ground,” Bacon explains. “When you get (Aaron) Reutzel and Haud (Jac Haudenschild) up front on the fence, it’s gonna be hard to track them down.”
Bacon rejoined forces with the Hoffman No. 69 for some wingless Saturday night competition at Indiana’s Lawrenceburg Speedway and raced to his fifth feature win of the season after topping heat race action earlier in the night.
“Rob was there as crew chief and Richard was there with a lot of friends, it felt like the old days,” Bacon said of the night.
While Bacon picked up the win, it wasn’t necessarily an easy one.
“(C.J.) Leary passed me early, I was able to get him back then he fell back some,” Bacon recalls. “We had to work for it, it wasn’t a cakewalk at all.”
This weekend’s USAC Sprint Car card at Lincoln Park Speedway on Friday and then Micro rounds at Port City Raceway on Sunday leads the way into next week’s USAC Midget swing through the Midwest that kicks off Tuesday night at Meeker, Oklahoma’s Red Dirt Raceway before continuing on through Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri.
