Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (April 7, 2014) – Tony Bruce Jr. used his weekend off from the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour to tackle a track he has struggled with in the past.

Bruce Jr. ventured to I-80 Speedway for the ASCS Midwest Region season-opening doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday, which served as a test for when the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competes at the big oval in September for the Midwest Fall Brawl.

“That is a place we’ve struggled at and we learned a lot last weekend,” Bruce Jr. said. “All in all, the weekend wasn’t horrible. I felt like we made some gains on our car. At the same time I expect to do better than what we did.”

Bruce Jr. was hampered by a high pill draw both nights, which started him near the back of his heat race on the tricky track.

On Saturday, he maneuvered from seventh to fifth place in his heat race before ending fourth in the B Main. That earned him a transfer to the main event, which he started 18th.

“We got going fairly decent,” he said of the feature. “The track took rubber early. We just rode around in the rubber for the most part. At the end of the race I noticed everybody getting a lot lazier getting through the corners. With about four to go I moved up a lane and I was able to pass four cars in the last lap and a half.”

Bruce Jr. rallied to post an eighth-place result.

Sunday’s race started similar to the opener as Bruce Jr. finished sixth in his heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. He then placed second in the consolation to transfer to the feature. After starting on the outside of the eighth row, Bruce Jr. advanced to an 11th-place finish.

“Unfortunately we started in the back all night and the race track ended up taking rubber again,” he said. “It was tough to pass and we couldn’t really get anything done. Turns three and four were rubber all the way through. Turns one and two were rough getting in, but coming out of turn two there was quite a bit of rubber.”

Bruce Jr. will return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action this Saturday at I-30 Speedway.
