Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 5, 2017) – Dylan Cisney rallied to earn his fifth podium finish of the season at Port Royal Speedway on Monday afternoon during the Labor Day Classic, inching closer to securing his first career track championship.

Cisney kicked off the event by charging from fifth to win a heat race and earn a spot in the feature redraw.

“We were real good all day,” he said. “We came from pretty much last in the heat and won that.”

Cisney drew the No. 5 during the random redraw to start the A Main on the inside of the third row.

“They watered the top for the feature,” he said. “We were real good, but that helps everyone get real good when they water the top. We fell back on the start to ninth and ended up making our way back through there. I think we were just as good as the leaders at the end. We just needed a yellow or a couple more laps to bunch us together.”

Cisney’s patience paid off as he rallied for a third-place result.

“On the day time races if you have a good car you can be patient,” he said. “You can let things get strung out. If your car is good you’ll run those guys down. Lapped times are slow. It’s plenty of time to get where you need to go. The top was so far around by the end of the feature you’re literally banging your right rear off the guard rail. It was probably the toughest surface you’ll drive on there.

“We struggled here the end of July and the whole month of August. A win would have been great, but a podium is what we needed going into the Tuscarora 50 weekend.”

Cisney owns an 85-point lead in the championship standings entering the $50,000-to-win Tuscarora 50, which is this Friday and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway. The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader will be the final points races of the season for the track.

“It’s the biggest one for sure,” Cisney said. “It’s at the top of the list and the one you want to win, especially this year with the money they’re putting up to win. It’s going to be a tough field. You have to start with just getting it in the show. Getting a good time trial run and making it through the heat to make the show is important. You have to be mindful of points, but at this point it’s close enough we need to be racing for a win.

“On Saturday we need a good time trial run, too. Just to make the show is huge. On a 50-lap feature, the track will be dry slick by that point so if you just get it in the show anything can happen.”
