Arenz storms to fourth place showing in first Fairbury IRA appearance
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 28, 2023 – As a rookie on the 2023 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series tour, Travis Arenz continued his penchant for turning in veteran-like performances as he steered his No. 25T Travis Arenz Motorsports mount to a strong fourth place showing in the prestigious Bill Waite Jr. Memorial IRA-Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) co-sanctioned main event in his first appearance at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Ill. on Saturday, June 24.
With a potent field of 42 IRA-MOWA 410 Sprint Car pilots in the pit area to pursue the $7,000 top prize, Arenz shook off his season-long qualifying woes by ripping off the fourth fastest lap with a time of 11.707 seconds on the quarter-mile dirt oval.
After starting third in the second eight-lap IRA-MOWA heat race, Arenz moved up one spot to place second and secure a spot in the four-lap dash, where he placed third after starting third.
The 2021 and 2022 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car champion started fifth in the 30-lap main event and dueled with former IRA champion Jake Blackhurst throughout much of the race, sticking mainly to the low groove of the multi-groove racing surface.
The Sheboygan Falls, Wis. competitor negotiated several restarts to secure a strong fourth place showing in a race won by Joe B. Miller. The fourth place finish was Arenz’s sixth top-five showing and eighth top-10 finish in 13 IRA events during the 2023 season.
“I’ve been to Fairbury in the past to watch racing, so I was pretty excited to turn laps on the historic track, finally,” Arenz said. “During the last few weekends of racing, I have gotten more consistent overall with qualifying and racing. The car felt good on my qualifying laps and we ended up fifth quick overall.
“As always, being in a dash is huge to start in the top 10 positions of the feature, so being able to start third and finish there in the dash was huge,” he said. “I missed the set up a touch in the feature, but made it work. I’m glad to see improvements each week of racing.”
The Travis Arenz Motorsports team be back in action with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series this Saturday July 1 for the Scott Semmelmann Memorial at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. for an all-open wheel program also featuring the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars and the IRA Lightning Sprints.
Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps set at 5:30 p.m. and racing to follow.
All 2023 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series events will be streamed live on FloRacing.
