BUMPER TO BUMPER IRA OUTLAW SPRINTS BRINGS THE FASTEST CARS ON DIRT TO WISCONSINS’S NORTHWOODS!
NORTHWOODS TRIPLE-HEADER, THREE TRACKS IN THREE DAYS FOR THE WINGED OUTLAW 410 SPRINTS!
July 22, 2014; Appleton, WI. – The circus is coming to town! This circus is one of speed and steel. Where the entertainers thrill fans by performing some the best racing to be seen. It’s outdoor entertainment for the whole family. Like a band of vagabond gypsies, the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint series is set to showcase the fastest cars on dirt this weekend at three different Wisconsin north woods racing venues. The 900 horsepower machines are set to take to the track in a trio of events in one weekend at three distinctly different racetracks.
It’s a once a year opportunity at all three venues to witness the sheer power of winged 410 sprint racing, and it’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss.
First up is the Langlade County Speedway, located in Antigo, Wisconsin. The track, considered a half-mile in length, is arguably the largest dirt track in the Midwest as it is closer to 5/8 of a mile in circumference. Run during the Langlade County Fair, the track, which is only open for specials, will showcase the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints on Friday Night, July 25th.
Last season marked the first appearance of the IRA Sprints since 2007. Bill Balog captured last seasons’ event after a late race pass of Steve Meyer. Due to weather related issues qualifying did not take place and the current record stands at 16.239 seconds set by Scott Young, the time stands as the all-time fastest lap ever turned at the facility. It is expected a new mark will be set Friday evening.
The fairgrounds are located at the northern end of town. Follow Highway 45 through Antigo to North Avenue and you will be at the location of the Langlade County Fairgrounds.
Qualifying is set to get underway at 7:00pm. Tickets are presold and available through the fair website at http://www.langladecountyfair.com Grandstand prices are $15 for adults, while children ages 4 through 12 are just $10. Race day ticket sales are $20 for adults and $15 for students. Children ages 3 and under are FREE.
In addition to the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints, IMCA type Sport Modifieds will be on hand for the show.
After the event in Antigo, the series packs up and heads two hours north to the shores of Lake Superior for a show on Saturday night July 26th. ABC Raceway, located just south of Ashland, Wisconsin, is a banked one-time mile oval. High speeds in close quarters will be the name of the game at the series takes to the red clay surface of ABC Raceway.
Balog has scored wins in the last two appearances at the track. The 2013 event was rained out, making it two years since fans have had opportunity to witness the sheer speed of the 410 sprints that will showcase triple digit speeds.
In addition to the IRA sprints FastLane Motorsports and Custom Powdercoating will present its annual “Super Stock Challenge,” with the track’s Six-Cylinder and Pure Stock classes adding to the program. Adult admission is $20, fans ages 6-12 get in for $5, and kids under age 6 are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Hot laps are set for 6:15 pm, followed by sprint car time trials. Racing is scheduled to start at 7.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990. The track website can be found at www.abcraceway.com
The weekend wraps up as the teams then head southwest to Eagle Valley Speedway in Jim Falls, Wisconsin on Sunday evening July 27th. The track is a large three-eights mile oval with a unique layout. The high-banked turns are ideal for the Winged Outlaw sprints, which barely have to use the brakes in the corners. The raceway is also unique in the fact that the front stretch goes slightly downhill, while the backstretch is slightly uphill.
Balog has captured the last three contests held at the track including last year’s show where he made a late race pass on Brooke Tatnell for the victory.
Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will be joining the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw sprints providing fans with a variety of high speed action.
Pit gates are to open at 4:00pm for this year’s show with the spectator gates opening at 4:30pm. Hot laps are to get underway at 5:30pm with racing set to begin at 6:00pm.
