Inside Line Promotions – HAUBSTADT, Ind. (April 12, 2021) – Jason Sides earned his second heat race win of the season and his sixth top-15 feature result of the year last Friday at Kokomo Speedway.

Sides kicked off the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series weekend in Indiana with a second-place qualifying effort at the dirt oval.

“It all started off pretty good,” he said. “We had a good pill draw and that got us a good qualifying lap. The heat race win got us into the dash. Then we got another good pill draw with the No. 1. It didn’t last too long, but we were in the dash. I fought back for a couple of laps, but I was trying too hard and let (James) McFadden get by so we ran third.”

Sides’ heat race win was followed by a third-place finish in the dash, giving him the third starting position in the 40-lap main event.

“We tightened up just a little bit because the track was starting to slick off,” he said. “When we rolled out they pushed the infield tires in. It was really wet on the bottom. Our car was too tight where I’d normally be running. Then on a couple of restarts we were hung on the outside and lost a few spots. On one restart the car in front of me jumped another car and three or four of us got bottled up.”

Sides was on the short end of two restarts that cost him a handful of positions each time, relegating him to a 14th-place result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Tri-State Speedway, where Sides timed in 12th quickest in his group. He then advanced from sixth to fifth in a heat race and from 20th to 17th in the A Main.

“We went out toward the end of qualifying,” he said. “Going 12th quick in our group started us sixth in the heat race. Donny (Schatz) got a little loose in one of the corners. I got it held down and got by him. We made sure we made the feature. That’s not the best track for me, the smaller ones like that. They used to be great, but not anymore. To get through that night and not tear anything up, I hate to say it like that, we were happy to get out of there making some progress and in one piece.”

Up next for Sides will be World of Outlaws races on Friday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the Texas Outlaw Nationals.

“I look forward to going to both of those places,” he said. “We had a decent run at Lawton last year. We were a bit too tight. Hopefully we can learn from there last year. And I’ve always enjoyed racing at Devil’s Bowl and we seem to run well there.”
