Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 22, 2019) – Kerry Madsen recorded his best Kings Royal finish since 2015 last Saturday when he capped four straight nights at Eldora Speedway with a 10th-place run.
It marked the Big Game Motorsports’ driver’s eighth top 10 as well as his 10th consecutive A Main start during the marquee World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event.
“I wish it was just starting again,” Madsen said. “We really got a handle on the race car and by the end of the weekend the motors were running well.”
The action began on Wednesday for the KI Crossbows backed team. Madsen qualified eighth quickest in his group and placed fourth in a heat race to lock into the 15th starting position.
“We got a bad start, but then we started coming on,” he said. “The main power steering line burst so that was a DNF.”
Madsen battled mechanical woes throughout Thursday’s event.
“We went out to qualify and the motor laid down so we qualified at the back,” he said. “We couldn’t fight our way back. We didn’t find the issue until the next day so we really lost a whole night over that.”
The team improved on Friday, timing in fifth quickest in their group, placing fourth in a heat race and winning the Last Chance Showdown. Madsen then rallied from 19th to 14th in the A Main.
“We made some progress,” he said. “I’d have liked to get further up. We weren’t bad, but we needed to make more progress.”
The weekend concluded on Saturday with the running of the $175,000-to-win Kings Royal. Madsen timed in 22nd quickest before he won a heat race from the third starting position.
“I had a great qualifying time,” he said. “It was quicker than what I wanted to do. Then we had a great heat race.”
Madsen lined up on the inside of the second row for the main event and ran inside the top five for most of the race.
“We had a great race,” he said. “We restarted fifth with 15 laps to go. I got the worst imaginable restart and pretty much came out 10th. I was on the inside and got boxed in. It was like the whole world went by me. That was pretty disappointing. I thought we had a podium car. That was a bit of a heartbreaker.”
Madsen finished 10th.
“We gained a lot,” he said. “If we could have unloaded Wednesday like we did on Saturday we would have been much further ahead. We have four more races this week so hopefully we can start out stronger.”
Madsen will compete with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions on Thursday at Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.; on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn.; on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa; and on Sunday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.
