Giovanni Scelzi Venturing to Las Vegas for Season Debut With Roth Motorsports

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2019) – Giovanni Scelzi starts his season in the United States this week when he will make his racing debut in Las Vegas during the FVP Platinum Battery presented by Star Nursery.

Scelzi will pilot a car for Roth Motorsports during the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas on Wednesday and Thursday. Bernie Stuebgen, who owns the Indy Race Parts backed No. 71 sprint car that Scelzi will race throughout the Midwest and East, is the crew chief.

“Running my family car, the Roth cars and Bernie’s cars gives me a lot of experience in different race cars,” Scelzi said. “I’m confident working with Bernie and we know Roth will provide great cars. This is a perfect opportunity to run close to home and it fills my schedule in a good car.”

This event marked his debut with the World of Outlaws last year. Scelzi learned throughout the two-day spectacle, qualifying fifth quickest overall on Night 2 before a crash ended his night early.

Scelzi went on to have a successful season competing in limited action with the World of Outlaws. He became the youngest winner in Outlaws history last September when he captured the opening night of the National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

“It was huge,” he said. “Having success, whether it’s top fives or top 10s or just running up front, gives you confidence. The year felt like it flew by and now we’re already at next year. I’m really confident going into this year.”

Scelzi already has a win under his belt in 2019 as he and Stuebgen claimed the Presidents Cup on Jan. 16 at Avalon Raceway in Lara, Victoria, Australia. It marked Scelzi’s first career international triumph and was the highlight of a quick trip filled with four complete nights of action.

“That’s the first time I’ve really raced in the offseason,” he said. “Any time you can stay in the seat and stay active it helps you. I’m looking forward to picking up where we left off.”
