Inside Line Promotions – MANSFIELD, Ohio (July 19, 2017) – Kevin Swindell Racing showcased some great moments throughout a busy week in Ohio.

The Swindell Speed Lab backed team opened the action a week ago Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, where Spencer Bayston qualified 12th quickest in his group before advancing from fourth to third place during a heat race to lock into the Brad Doty Classic main event. He started the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series A Main on the outside of the ninth row.

“It took me a couple of laps to get going,” he said. “With that series you’ll get eaten up real quick. A mistake on my part by not being on it dropped us all the way back to 22nd. Then the fuel load burned off and I got into a rhythm and we were able to start hitting our stride. We were clicking off some good laps at the end of the race.”

Bayston rallied to post a 15th-place result.

Swindell had planned to park his sprint car until Sunday, but his father, Sammy, was in a predicament after his ride endured a mechanical problem during the opening night of the famed Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio.

Kevin Swindell provided a new opportunity as he put his father in the race car for Saturday’s $50,000-to-win event finale.

“That place and that race is special to me,” Kevin Swindell said. “To do it with him was cool. It was neat to have him in something that I did and to see it succeed a little bit at the same time was neat.”

Sammy Swindell qualified 18th quickest and finished third in a heat race to lock into the main event. He ended the night with a 19th-place result, which left Kevin Swindell scratching his head regarding the way the race car was reacting.

“It seemed like we were too tight at Attica with Spencer,” he said. “I blamed myself thinking we were just too tight. At Eldora we chased a small issue most of the night and that was probably it. We shouldn’t have been rolled up on the right rear as we were.”

Swindell discovered midway through Sunday’s program at Mansfield Motor Speedway, where Bayston returned to the seat, that the right rear shock had a problem.

“It bottomed out somewhere along the way or something happened that barely kinked it,” he said. “It hurt it enough. When I thought I had it at 100 pounds, it was like 70 pounds. We were ok without fuel early in the night. As soon as you filled the car with fuel it took it too far. It wasn’t dead; it just wasn’t right.”

Bayston qualified seventh quickest to open the night before he charged from fourth to win a heat race. Swindell fixed the shock prior to the main event, which Bayston started on the inside of the second row.

“When we first rolled out it looked like the track may take rubber,” he said. “I had that in the back of my mind. We got to the top and started clicking down some laps. We had a restart that bunched everyone back up. Rico (Abreu) and Carson (Macedo) caught traffic and I was able to slide both of them into turn one. That started the battle. We were all ripping the top. I had a couple of really good opportunities, but I didn’t make the right move once or twice and Rico had command of the race in the late going. On the last lap I slid him into turn one and drove it in too deep and wasn’t able to get to the cushion to get any drive off. He crossed me over and was able to bring home the win.”

Bayston capped the epic race with a runner-up result, which was his seventh top five of the season with the team.

Bayston and Swindell will tackle a trio of Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions races this weekend starting on Friday at Eriez Speedway in Erie, Pa., before venturing to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pa., on Saturday. The weekend will wrap up on Sunday at Tri-City Raceway Park in Franklin, Pa. It will be Bayston’s debut at all three tracks.
