Inside Line Promotions – MINOT, N.D. (Aug. 21, 2014) – Austen Wheatley wrapped up his trip to the Midwest with his best World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series result of the season on Sunday at Minot Speedway.

Despite suffering from food poisoning all night, Wheatley garnered a 12th-place finish in the main event after qualifying 13th quickest and finishing where he started – fifth – in a heat race.

“I got food poising the night before,” he said. “I’d get sleep for increments of 30 minutes and then I’d feel like I was in the center of a volcano.

“Everybody was pretty much the same pace all night. It was really fast. In the A Main the track was going to get slicker, but there was a small rain delay right before we went out. I think we were a ninth-place car, but my sickness made me a 12th-place driver.”

Wheatley’s results improved throughout the week following the Knoxville Nationals.

He finished 18th in the main event on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., and he earned a 17th-place result last Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., after getting upside down early in the feature.

“We had a damaged top wing and the steering was messed up after the crash,” he said. “That’s not my favorite place. I’ve been there four times and I think I’ve flipped three times.”

The team returned home to Washington this week and Wheatley is scheduled to race at Skagit Speedway in Alger this Saturday. He picked up his lone win of the season at the 3/10-mile track earlier this summer.
