WISSOTA
Great racing…and a whole lot more in South Dakota!
Pack up the family for the 2016 WISSOTA 100 in Huron. Along with four nights of packed-to-the-brim dirt track racing action, there is no shortage of special events in Huron during “100 week” to keep drivers and fans entertained before the cars hit the track each evening.
Ride In A Monster Truck
The Twisted Steel Monster Truck will be available for rides Friday and Saturday of the WISSOTA 100. This giant has seating for 10 in the bed of the Monster Truck and will take you for an unforgettable ride so you can truly feel its power! The Twisted Steel Monster Truck will be in the parking lot just west of the brand new Nordby Exhibit Hall just off 3rd and Lincoln Ave near the campgrounds.
Bean Bag Tournament
If you think you’ve got what it takes to be the WISSOTA 100 Bean Bag Tournament Champ, then enter in the games to be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday! Registration is just one hour before play at 11:30 each day. Call Cory for details 605-461-1675. The tournament is limited to the first 40 teams.
Auto Expo On The Grounds
If you love Street Rods, Rats, Old Race Cars and Classic Cars from years gone by, don’t miss the WISSOTA 100 Car Show on the fairgrounds. It will be held on Saturday only this year (September 17). The Auto Expo is open to the public and is completely free! It will be held in the brand new Nordby Exhibit Hall starting in 2016!
Ride In A Race Car
Bob Hiller’s nationally famous two-seat, street-legal GRT race car will be on the grounds Thursday, Friday and Saturday in an effort to support the local DARE organization, which educates young people in the community about the dangers of drug use and abuse. Hiller travels the country with his charity-supporting race car and gives rides to event fans for a donation. If you want to take a quick tour of Huron and really do it in style – the kind of style that will leave people staring, pointing and waving at you – then make a donation to the local DARE organization and have Hiller take you around town. You might never have this opportunity again, so don’t miss it.
Golf, Bowling, Movies
There are three golf courses in Huron, two bowling alleys and a movie theater within about five minutes of the race track. When the kids need a break, or when you want to enjoy one of your favorite non-racing pastimes, consider a round of golf, a line of bowling, or lose yourself in a great movie.
Parks &?Walking Trails
If you just want to get away and enjoy a nice day, the city of Huron has scenic, spacious parks and walking trails that are great for the whole family where you can view over 20 murals. There’s also a gym and exercise facility which allows non-members to get a great workout while in town. The Nordby Center for Recreation includes a track, pool, weight room, tennis, basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts.
World’s Largest Pheasant
Something you won’t see in any other city is the World’s Largest Pheasant. The kids will get a kick out of seeing a bird that stands 28 feet tall and 40 feet from beak to tail! Snap their photo standing next to one really big bird.
Nearby Attractions
If you want to take a short road trip one of the days you’re in beautiful South Dakota, nearby Mitchell (45 minutes away) has The Corn Palace, a major tourist attraction for families from across the U.S., and if you’re an outdoor enthusiast, stop at the huge Cabela’s store in Mitchell as well. South Dakota is a hunter’s paradise and the Cabela’s Store is a great place to window shop…or shop for real!
For The Grownups
There are also casinos nearby for day trips, and the Terry Redlin Wildlife and Americana art museum is only about 90 minutes away in Watertown. It’s an easy drive to make under sunny Dakota skies.
Nightly 50/50 Drawings
“Gamblers” will also have the chance to win big money every night at the track. Saturday night’s winner has received well more than $10,000 in the past. You read that right. Over $10,000 for one lucky race fan, just for buying a few tickets from the friendly Lions Club members from Huron. On Wednesday through Friday, the “typical” winner’s amount is over $3,000. Small change, right? Are you kidding? Get there and get your tickets!
Tool Time By Fastenal
The local Fastenal store will again be a prominent vendor on the midway behind the grandstands throughout each race day. There will be very, very special buys on tools of all kinds at the Fastenal booth this year – name brands, top quality, and best prices. Fastenal is a sponsor of the event, so support them and get a great deal, too! The Fastenal booth will be open 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
It’s Not Just A Race, The 100 Is An Event
This is not just a race; it’s an event held in a community full of people looking to entertain you and your friends and family for an entire week while the Greatest Show on Dirt is taking place! The Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100 promises to be one of the most exciting and largest dirt track racing events in the country with hundreds of WISSOTA competitors in action on the track.
