Anderson Takes the Win as the Steffes Street Stock Tour Stops at the Big O

Ogilvie, MN (July 10) – 124 Drivers signed into the pits Saturday night for the Annual Fireworks Spectacular at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway. The stands were packed with people of all ages and there were guests from Texas, Hawaii and even Alaska to enjoy the great night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Racing Action. The Steffes Street Stock Tour made their stop at the Big O and the current tour points leader, Parker Anderson, took the win with Travis Schulte, Clayton Wagamon, Dave Mass, Tommy Bawden and Joe Wilber also taking home hardware.

Corey Mehrwerth and David Pixley brought the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green for the night’s first feature. Mehrwerth sped into the lead with Ashley Mehrwerth and Brennan Gave in tow. Shane Howell drove to Gave’s door for third and took the point as Schulte put pressure on Gave. A couple cautions slowed the drivers, but C. Mehrwerth was in charge on the restart. Schulte moved into second and raced to C. Mehrwerth’s outside. With the race half over, Schulte slid into the lead point, but C. Mehrwerth kept close as they pulled away from the pack. Schulte broke away from C. Mehrwerth and stretched his lead the final laps to take the checkers. Cory Mehrwerth finished second while Brennan Gave, Shane Howell and Ashely Mehrwerth wrapped up the top points.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks took the track with Jonny Carter and Parker Anderson side by side for first. After a quick battle, Anderson snagged the top point. Carter held the runner up point while Ryan Satter and Justin Vogel raced for third. The top drivers settled into positions as Vogel closed the gap with Carter. Vogel moved into the second point and set his eyes on Anderson. Laps went by with Vogel reeling in Anderson until the yellow waved. Kyle Dykhoff, Jeff Ekdahl and Jim Randall were tangled in turn three and the race went red. After the drivers were sorted, Anderson was still in command with Satter, Vogel and Kyle Genett three wide for second. Justin Pogones broke into the top five and the drivers racing for points two through five kept close. Anderson built up a solid lead when the yellow waved with three laps to go. Parker Anderson brought the drivers back to green and kept the cruise set to take the checkers. Kyle Genett, Justin Vogel, Justin Pogones and Hunter Carter grabbed the top five points.

Tyler Kaeter grabbed the immediate lead when the green dropped for the WISSOTA Modifieds. Jeremy Nelson raced the low groove and Kaeter ran the high side, as they were parallel in the curves. The top two had a good lead established and Nelson didn’t let Kaeter out of his sight. A couple of cautions slowed the drivers, however as the green reappeared, Nelson, Kaeter and Jody Bellefeuille were three wide for first. Kaeter sped away, Bellefeuille claimed second with Nelson, Dave Cain and Clayton Wagamon three wide. The final laps passed and Kaeter took the checkers. However, after the drivers went through tech, Clayton Wagamon was awarded the win. Remaining top positions went to, Jody Bellefeuille, Dave Cain, Jeremy Nelson and Danny Vang.

Jared Zimpel and Ryan Kostreba sped away in points one and two as the WISSOTA Super Stocks went green, but the yellow soon followed. Zimpel brought the drivers back to green, but Kostreba and Dave Mass were on his rear. Kostreba sped past Zimpel for the top point, with Mass following. Mass worked the middle groove, dove to the low groove, and shot into the lead. Dexton Koch found something on the high side and flew into the second point. Koch quickly caught Mass and they were nose to nose for first. As they exited turn four and raced down the front stretch, some rubbing occurred, and Mass sped off with the lead. Koch didn’t let Mass get away and as they rounded the final curve, Mass had to go three wide with slower drivers to maintain the lead. Dexton Koch finished second with Jim Gullikson, Josh Zimpel and Ryan Kostreba as the top finishers while Super Dave Mass rolled into victory lane.

The WISSOTA Mod Fours began their feature with three and four wide racing which included Tommy Bawden, Garret Masurka and Dean Larson in a battle for first. Bawden claimed the point while Larson took second. Robert and Dustin Holtquist battled for third and crept behind Larson. R. Holtquist slid into the runner up spot just as the yellow waved. Bawden brought the drivers back to green, but R. Holtquist didn’t let him get too far. As the laps went by, Robert gave a final push to catch the TB81, however Tommy Bawden kept his foot down and took the win. Remaining top points went to Robert Holtquist, Dean Larson, Skyler Smith and Tommy Pogones.

The WISSOTA Hornets closed out the night’s race program, and they put on a fantastic race. Colton Trembath and John Aderman remained side by side the first three laps of the feature until Aderman claimed the lead. Joe Wilber moved next to Matthew Dittman for third and they both slid to Trembath’s door. They were three wide for second as Wilber and Dittman drove to Aderman’s door. As they raced three wide for the lead, they caught a slower car and were four wide. Aderman and Wilber remained glued to one another as they rounded the track. Wilber nosed ahead enough to claim the top point with drivers still three wide behind him. The leaders encountered serious traffic allowing Dittman to catch Wilber. Wilber and Dittman raced bumper to bumper with lapped cars in the mix. With the checkers in sight, the top two drivers broke away from the traffic and put their right foot down. The difference between the top two finishers was a slim .095 seconds, and it was Joseph Wilber who was victorious. Matthew Dittman settled in second with John Aderman, Colton Trembath and Nate Servaty as the top five.

Next weekend, Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway will be in action both Friday and Saturday nights with the inaugural MOD WARS Battle. The big shots of the USMTS will take on our local WISSOTA Modifieds for big payouts. The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Mod Fours and Hornets will also be in action.
