THOMPSON SNAPS SANDBERG’S WINNING STREAK

There was a bounty on the IMCA Sport Compact driver of Ken Sandberg. If a driver could snap Sandberg’s 10 race winning streak, they would take home an extra $310 dollars. Minot’s Aiden Wagner started on the pole and pulled away when the green flag waved. It was a thrilling battle for second between Tanner Hofer, Alex Thompson, Stan Thompson and Ken Sandberg. Stan Thompson shuffled into the second position bringing Sandberg with him. Cautions plagued the feature race as they came early and often. On the final restart, Wagner pulled away once more as Stan Thompson and Sandberg battled for second. While racing hard, Sandberg got too high off turn two, dropping him out of the top five. Aiden Wagner led all 12 laps to win over Stan Thompson. Ken Sandberg came back to finish third ahead of Skyler Gross and Brendan Grover.

*** After the conclusion of the IMCA Sport Compact feature, Aiden Wagner was disqualified for having his transponder in the wrong spot on the car. Although it is not a rule in the IMCA Sport Compact rule book, it is a Dacotah Speedway track rule. Officials declared Stan Thompson the feature winner. Thompson then took the bounty money and donated the money to Aiden Wagner’s Kid Racing for a Cause fundraiser to help raise awareness of suicide prevention.
