Lake Ozark Speedway With Time Trial Based Format Next For Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series
Bryan Hulbert – ELDON, Mo. (May 24, 2021) A $10,000 top prize awaits teams this Memorial Day Weekend as the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network and Racinboys.com ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps take on Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30
The weekend will also include the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League, racing for a top prize of $5,000.
Put on by The Driver’s Project, the people behind the name are Daryl and Peter Turford. Hailing from Canada with a long history in Motorsports, the Father/Son combination currently turns wrenches for Canada’s Hills Racing Team, which fields a trio of cars in the United States for Sam Hafertepe, Jr., who is running a 410cid scheduled, as well as Alex Hill, and Dylan Westbrook who compete with the American Sprint Car Series.
Working with ASCS officials during the off-season, this weekend’s format will see a group time trial format similar to the current All Star Circuit of Champions system with some minor revisions.
The race will utilize a group/heat time trial format that will invert the fastest 4 qualifiers in each group – using timed warm-ups. The 3rd fastest qualifier in each group will be given lane choice for the heat. The heat race winner, as well as the next fastest from time trials, will go to the first of 2, 6 lap dashes.
Dash 1 will be made up of the fastest 8 qualifiers who will re-draw for positions and will line up the first 8 spots in the feature. Dash 2 will be made up of the 9th-16th fastest qualifiers and will line up the 9th through 16th starting spots.
If the night is running excessively long, the redraw positions will be used and the dashes eliminated.
The remaining cars will be lined up in B and C Mains if needed with the fastest 2 time trialers who don’t qualify from the race will line up on the front row of the B Main(s) followed by the rest of the field based on their heat race finishes.
Friday’s practice opens at 5:00 P.M. with cars on track at 7:00 P.M. (CDT). Saturday, May 29, and Sunday, May 30, opens at Noon with Qualifying Hot Laps at 5:30 P.M. (CDT). Admission each day is $25, with Military and Seniors are admitted for $22. Youth 13 and under get in for $10. Pits are $40 per day.
