RACE OF CHAMPIONS, LAKE ERIE SPEEDWAY AND THOMPSON-REILLY INVITE FAMILIES TO TAKE PART IN SPECIAL POST RACE CEREMONY IN MEMORY OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS
Race of Champions Modified Series, Lake Erie Speedway management and the Thompson-Reilly family is proud to announce and invite families and friends to honor those who have been lost with a special lantern lighting ceremony, that will take place one-hour after the conclusion of Saturday’s racing activities, while socially distanced on the race track.
There will be 54 lanterns available. Teams / families are encouraged to individually pick up their lantern from the Race of Champions Modified Series trailer and when indicated to do so, proceed out to an area distanced from others on the speedway. Officials will manage the flow of people to the track.
There will be a countdown to lighting the lanterns and releasing them into the sky. The purpose of this event is to give family and friends an opportunity to spend time with one another, remember those closest to them and bring the racing community together, while “socially distanced” as there have been limited opportunities to do so this season.
“This has been an especially challenging season for all of us,” stated Tracy Thompson-Reilly, representative of the Thompson-Reilly family. “We feel extremely fortunate to have a race that honors my late husband, Joe, in name. It doesn’t matter where the race takes place, it is truly an honor. We recognize that not everyone has the same opportunity, so we wanted to take this time and give families and friends the opportunity to honor their family members and friends. This is intended to be a special ceremony in memory of everyone that has been lost.”
Tickets may be purchased for the weekend and will be available at the Lake Erie Speedway ticket office or at www.lakeeriespeedway.com. In the event that there is inclement weather, the event will be postponed to 2021, due to the prior commitment to Mahoning Valley Speedway and their Race of Champions Modified Series event on Saturday, October 3, with an agreed upon and announced inclement weather date of Saturday, October 10.
