Bowers, Brown and Livezey Score IMCA Wins; Asher and Masoner Take Night #1 of E-Mod and Pure Stock Nationals
OSBORN, Mo. – With only a few points nights remaining and championship battles taking shape, US 36 Raceway put another night of racing in the books.
In the IMCA Modifieds, national point contender, Steven Bowers Jr., made easy work of the field and cruised to his fourth win at US 36 this season. The trip to Westfall GMC Victory Lane closed the track points gap to 14 markers between Bowers and point leader Chad Andersen, with two points nights to go. Mark Burgtorf finished second in his first appearance at US 36 this season. Chad Clancy, Tony Layne and Andersen completed the top five.
The IMCA Stock Cars put on the show of the night as the battle for the lead late in the race was a good one. After several early cautions, Scott Brown and Mich Ross traded the lead back and forth. For most of the second half of the race, Ross would lead one lap and Brown the next. With three to go, Ross slipped up in turn one and Brown cleared for the lead and checkered flag. JJ Baumli took advantage and moved up to second with Ross third. Early leader, Brad Derry and Brad Labonte completed the top five.
In another fantastic race after some early yellows, Colton Livezey and Chad Shaw traded sliders for the lead in the closing laps of the IMCA Sport Mod feature. On the final lap as the two raced side-by-side, Livezey used a lapped car as a pick and drove away in the final corner for the win. Shaw finished second after starting eighth. Tim Eaton, Chris Wright and Steven Clancy rounded out the top five.
A huge field of 32 E-Modifieds checked in for night one of the E-Mod and Pure Stock Nationals. Justin Asher took advantage of a late race yellow to sneak by race long leader Chris Dishong for the win. Dishong finished second, with hard-charging Casey Burnett in third. Keith Simmons completed a solid run in fourth. Colton Couch was able to move through a B-Feature and most of the main event field to finish fifth.
The Pure Stocks saw Connor Masoner hold off multiple challenges from Kasey Ayers and Spencer Reiff to earn the win. Ayers finished second with Reiff third as the two had quite the battle for the position between themselves in the closing laps. Cody Ohrenburg and Alvie Christofferson finished out the top five. Night two of the E-Mod and Pure Stock Nationals will be contested at Bethany Speedway.
Up next for US 36 Raceway is the second to last points race of the season featuring the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sprint Cars, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, E-Modifieds and Pure Stocks.
