Andy Eckrich bags Malvern Bank bucks at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 14, 2020) – The Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing – Hoker Trucking East Series made their first ever appearance at the Davenport Speedway, Friday night.
Over one hundred and thirty racecars were in the pit area and NASCAR star Ken Schrader was on hand racing a modified.

With $5,000 on the line for the winner, the late model racers didn’t need much encouragement to race hard. In the 40-lap feature, Andy Eckrich showed the field why he deserved the money.
Andy led all forty laps and fended of the challenges of Spencer Diercks, Matt Ryan, and in the closing laps Justin Kay. Kay was able to get within a couple car-lengths, but no closer. Justin would have to settle for second place money and was followed by Jason Hahne, Andy Nezworski, and Tad Pospisil.
Ryan, Hahne, Spencer Diercks, and Curt Martin each won a heat race. Brian Harris and Bill Leighton won B-Mains.

Brunson Behning dominated the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature leading all twenty laps. Behning jumped out to the lead from the pole stuck his car to the top of the racetrack. The hornet’s nest behind him saw drivers juggling spots in the top five, searching for the fast line.
Tom Berry Jr. of Des Moines, made the trek to Davenport pay off with a second place finish. Chris Simpson took third with Spencer Diercks fourth. Ken Schrader finished fifth.
Behning, Berry, and Schrader each won heat races. Eric Barnes and Brandon Durbin won semis.

Another huge field of IMCA SportMods were in the pits on Friday. While Brunson Behning used the high side in the Modifieds, Doug Burkhead found the low groove to his liking. Burkhead used the bottom to pass Ben Chapman for the lead on lap four. Down the stretch, Doug was able to hold off Maguire DeJong and secure the win. DeJong would finish second, with Chapman third. Logan Veloz and Dustin Schram completed the top five.
Four heats and two semis were needed to get the field of 24 cars qualified. Heat race wins went to Tony Olson, Shane Paris, Gage Neal, and Schram. Jared Waterman and Cam Reimers won the B-Mains.

In Koehler Electric Street Stock action, Donnie Louck captured his first win of the year at Davenport. Louck quickly went from fourth to first and then left the field in his dust. Jesse Owen drove from seventh to finish second. Jeff Struck Jr. won the battle of the 4s, holding off Zachary Zuberbier. Jeffrey Peterson finished fifth.

The QCjeeps.com Sport Compact main was the last feature of the evening and was quite entertaining. Shawn McDermott grabbed the early lead, before yielding to Brandon Dahl. Dahl got into a late race battle with Jimmy Dutlinger. Coming to the checkered flag, a back marker spun directly in front of the leaders. Dutlinger was able to make it through and got to the
finishline first. However, he was later DQ’d for a violation in tech. This gave the win to Dahl. McDermott was scored second, ahead of Tim Sibley, Todd Sibley, and Jack Fitzgibbon, in that order.

Tomorrow night we do it all over again right here at the Davenport Speedway. Another $5,000 on the line for the Hoker Trucking East Series cars and stars. Hotlaps are at 6:30pm with racing to follow. Ken Schrader is expected to run with the Modifieds again on Saturday at Davenport.
