Scotty Thiel - Runner Up Again

Scotty Thiel and the #64 Complete Water Inc Sprint Car made a three day race weekend, falling short of the win both Friday and Saturday night with the MSA, and made the trip Sunday to race with the IRA 410 Sprints.

Friday night, July 1st, brought the Scott Thiel Motorsprots team to the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway. Scotty picked a 47 pill and started 7th in the heat race event. After taking the green flag, it took Thiel a few laps to get a feel for the car and only picked up onen position. Passing was very difficult but a 6th place finished would allow Scotty to start 16th in the Nights 30 lap A-Main event. It was a slow moving A-Main as several cautions and red flag flew. Thiel started to pick off cars as the begining laps went under way. With several laps in, Scotty got a great restarted and literally picked up 10 positions in the matter of two laps. With 14 laps complete, Thiel found himself sitting in the 3rd position. After taking the green flag again, Scotty charged hard and grabbed the 2nd spot, chasing the leader down. Again, a red flag flew and only 15 laps were completed. When the green flag flew again, Thiel charged hard into turns one and two and gained some ground on the leader. The white flag flew coming out of turn 4 and Scotty got along side the leader coming out of turn 2, he bobbled the car in turn 3 but managed to hold and and charge off of turn 4, but the leader got to the line by a half a car sooner. It was a great run for Thiel but the race was shortened due to time restraints. Only 17 laps were completed out of a 30 lap Main event. The entire team knew that if the race had gone the orginial 30 laps, the #64 was the car to beat.

Saturday, July 2nd brought the team to the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Scotty drew a 18 pill which set him to start 3rd in the heat race event. After taking the green flag, Thiel moved into the 2nd spot and charged down the leader. A caution came out just when Scotty was making the pass for the lead. The field reset and Scotty again charged for the lead and this time took the lead away. A Red flag came out and Thiel drove past the wreck with caused him to be sent to the tail end of the field. The green flag flew again, and in the matter of three laps, Thiel got back in the lead and took the checkered flag! That would set him to start 10th in the Night's 25 lap A-Main event. After taking the green flag for the A-Main event, Thiel lost a few spot trying to make the high side of the race track work, but quickly jumped back down to the bottom side. After a few laps in, Scotty was starting to pick off spots and found himself within the Top 10. A red came out around the midway point of the race and after the field went back to Green flag action, Thiel got a great restart and found himself now in the top 5. Scotty was making the bottom side work and charged hard into 3rd with only a few laps remaining. Coming down on the white flag lap, Thiel snuck inside the 2nd place car and took the spot away and crossed the finish line again in the 2nd position.

"We had the car to beat all weekend so far, just started deep both nights. We are consistant I guess." Thiel mentioned after Saturday Night's event.

Sunday July 3rd brought the team to the IRA 410 Sprint car show at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI. Running with the 410's with their MSA 360 car would be tough but the whole team knew they could have a decent shot as to making the A-Main. Scotty ran a qualifying time of 12.866 which was good enough for 25th. That would set Thiel to start 9th in the heat race event. After taking the green flag, Thiel was right in the mix of the 6th-9th positions and stayed with the field all race long but crossed the finish line in the 8th position and would have to come from the B-Main in order to make it in to the 30 lap A-Main event. Scotty started 10th in the B-Main and at the drop of the green started making up ground. Thiel was battling for the 7th and final transfer position with only a few laps to go. Scotty made the pass and took the checkered flag. Thiel would then start in the 22nd position for the A-main event. When the green flew, Scotty began to slowly pick off car by car. The track was very dry slick and he was making the bottom side work. Thiel was up to 13th when a red flag came out with 14 laps in. The field was pushed to turn 4 for refueling. The STM crew came on the track with their four-wheeler to check and refuel if needed and weren't aware of the rule that no wheelers were allowed on the track. Thiel would then have to go to the tail of the field, along with a few other cars. Scotty restarted in 19th and charged back up to 12th in the remaining laps.

Overall, it was a great weekend for the #64 Complete Water Inc Sprint car. Taking home two 2nd place finishes and passing 10 cars with the IRA for a 12th place finish is nothing to complain about. STM would like to thank all of their great marketing partners:
