UMSS Elko Spring Dirt Nationals Purse & Bonuses

By: Greg Parent, UMSS Media Director

With the dirt surface in place and a stretch of decent spring weather predicted, the inaugural Elko Spring Dirt Nationals are scheduled to get underway on Thursday night April 14 with a stock car racing program. The following two nights, Friday April 15 and Saturday April 16, the UMSS winged sprint cars will open their 2011 season with a full race program each evening. Details on the purse have been released and are indicated below in this press release. The UMSS feature race will pay $1,000 to win each night. Pit gates open at 3:00 in the afternoon. Hot laps are scheduled for 6:00 with racing action slated to get underway at 7:00 p.m.

There are also several bonuses in effect for the UMSS portion of the opening weekend at Elko Speedway. The previously announced GRP Past Champions Bonus will be in effect if former UMSS champions Leigh Thomas and Cody Hahn are on hand. In addition, GRP has indicated that the 2010 Rookie of the Year, Jared Goerges, along with 2010 rookie runner-up Ronnie Erickson and third place finisher Andy Jones, will battle amongst themselves for a top-finishing 2010 rookie bonus each night during the opening weekend at Elko. The highest finisher amongst those three drivers will earn a $100 bonus each night. "Being a past champion or rookie will have its advantages in that those drivers will race for some added money at selected events in 2011," stated Greg Parent from GRP Motorsports. Details on the 2011 GRP Rookie of the Year Award and GRP Points Bonus will be released very soon.

One additional UMSS bonus will be in effect on the opening weekend at Elko as well. Should a driver win the feature race both nights, the GRP Motorsports Clean Sweep Bonus of $500 will go to that driver. "This gives one driver a chance to earn $2,500 for the weekend should that driver race to victory in both feature races," indicated Greg Parent. "It will be a difficult task with a quality field of cars expected, but it adds an extra incentive for those drivers capable of pulling it off," stated UMSS CDO Ron Bernhagen.

With a large field of cars expected in all racing divisions, the UMSS will not utilize its normal race format at Elko on April 15 and 16. Drivers will draw for starting positions in the heat races, and based on the finish of each heat race, they will qualify for the "A" Feature in that manner. Should there be enough cars on hand each night, a "B" Main will be run. This is a normal race procedure found at many events, but it does differ from the typical UMSS race night procedure where the group runs heats, challenge races and a feature.

UMSS sprint car drivers will also be racing for $1,000 to win on April 30 at the Cedar Lake Speedway thanks to GRP Motorsports. GRP will be increasing the standard $800 first place payout that night in order to make it $1,000 to win. An extra $100 will also be added to the second and third place finishing positions on April 30.
