A trio of drivers add their names to the 2019 win list at US 36 Raceway on July 12

OSBORN, Mo. – Before the Iowa Sprint Car League took the high banks of US 36 Raceway, the US 36 drivers set the tone earlier in the night.

In arguably the best IMCA Stock Car Feature of the season, Brad Whitney jumped to the early lead. The field never gave him a more than a few car lengths, as second through sixth swapped several times between many different drivers. After all the moving around, Mich Ross and JJ Baumli emerged as the two most able to challenge Whitney. Ross ran the top and Baumli worked the middle to bottom lane of the track. They both converged on Whitney, and with the laps winding down, the three found themselves three-wide for the lead with two to go. With racing room hard to come by, Ross got too high in turn four and left the battle to Whitney and Baumli. Baumli cleared for the lead as the white flew and earned his first checkered flag of 2019. Whitney finished second. Blake Peeler ran a patient race as he took his time working through the field. After starting eighth, Peeler finished in third, needing one more caution to challenge the leaders. Thomas Roberts finished fourth and Carson Masoner finished fifth.

Chase Rudolf struggled in his IMCA Sport Mod heat race and found himself starting last in the feature. After making the necessary adjustments, he proved in the opening laps of the feature he had a fast race car. Although as the laps were starting to wind down, the leaders were driving away. Rudolf had methodically moved his way into the third position, as leaders Chris Wright and Cade Richards had a large gap on the rest of the field. It looked as though the two would settle the race between themselves. Rudolf needed a caution if he were to add his name to the battle for the win. With four to go, the caution flew, and Rudolf became an immediate contender. On the restart, Wright got a good jump, while Richards and Rudolf battled for second. Rudolf cleared Richards and focused his sights on Wright. Wright ran the top of the track and Rudolf ran the bottom, setting up the late-race duel for the win. On the white flag lap, Rudolf drove deep into turn one. The car stuck and he got a run off turn two. The two battled down the backstretch, but Rudolf bettered Wright in turn four and cleared him for a trip to Westfall GMC Victory Lane in his first appearance at US 36. Wright finished second with Richards third. Matt Lent finished fourth after battling for the lead early. Tim Eaton earned the final top five position.

The Pure Stocks also added a new name to the 2019-win list as Logan Headley fended off several challenges from Chester Kaufman. Headley earned the early lead at the start of the race. He opened up a few car lengths early, but Kaufman closed it back down near the halfway point. Kaufman made a run at Headley as the two made contact in turn three a few laps past halfway. The door rubbing didn’t faze Headley as he powered back around on the top side. Headley then found some more speed and opened the lead back up, eventually winning by a comfortable margin. Kaufman finished second. CJ Turner, back in his Pure Stock while making repairs to his Stock Car, finished third. Connor Masoner and Blaine Yonts made up the rest of the top five.

The E-Modified race went to the driver that could handle restarts the best, as they were plentiful. Kit Bailey, who started eighth, proved to be best as he picked off a few cars each one. On a late race restart, he moved around early leader Dakota Earls. Eventually, the race was cut a few laps short due to the time limit and Bailey earned the win. Earls finished second with Matt Dorssom third. Shawn Burns and Gary Ainsworth completed the top five.

The Iowa Sprint Car league finished off the night with an impressive battle between Mitchell Moore and Wyatt Burks. Both drivers consistently moved their lines around to find the most speed. At one point, Burks had an opportunity to take the lead, but the caution flew and negated the run. Moore knew were Burks wanted to run after that and drove defensively the rest of the race to hold off Burks and win the race. Burks finished second. Riley Kriesel got caught up in an early race incident, and after visiting the hot lane charged back up to a third-place finish. Chris Parkinson finished fourth and Katlynn Leer finished fifth.

Up next for US 36 Raceway is a night that will see drivers continue to chase season championships as the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Winged Sprints, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, Pure Stocks and E-Modifieds will all be in action on July 19.
