Bryan Hulbert – ELMA, Wash. (July 3, 2019) Seeing his points lead with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network evaporate over the weekend at the Fred Brownfield Classic, Blake Hahn is taking the coming off weekend to help his cousin, Matt Ward, at Big Sky Speedway, and regroup his DriveWFX.com No. 52 team for the Grizzly Nationals.
“Every year it seems like we make huge gains at Skagit and hand them back at Elma. It’s frustrating, but part of it. We missed it a little bit, but we’re not out by any means,” stated Hahn who is now third in Tour Standings. “There is still plenty of races to go, and the points will take care of themselves. I’m not going to get hung up on one bad night. We’re focused on winning and finishing in the top five every night.”
Finishing 10th on Friday, the trouble came on Saturday where a tough Heat Race sent Hahn to the B-Feature. Battling most of the race for the final transfer spot, Hahn ended up one spot shy, forcing the Sage Fruit Co. No. 52 to take a provisional into the A-Feature.
“I was not about to run and hide after that. We came to race, and we needed to learn the track, so we went out and did everything we could before the track locked down on the bottom, and we hit on something because I could make the car work just about anywhere I wanted to until the last restart. After that, you just had to get in line.”
Advancing from 23rd, Hahn’s night ended with an 11th place finish.
Next for Hahn is the NAPA of Montana Grizzly Nationals, an event that Blake swept in 2016. In six visits to the Montana oval, Hahn has not finished outside the Top 10 with three of those runs on the podium, including last year’s runner-up finish. The 2019 edition takes place Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13.
“Gallatin is a neat track and one we feel really confident at. I want to get my picture with Adam again and get our momentum going, and I feel like we’re in a good spot to get the job done again.”
The 2019 season is Blake Hahn’s 17th year of racing. Starting in Jr. Sprints at the Tulsa Shootout, Hahn has progressed through the ranks with over 90 victories across Micros, Midgets, and Sprint Cars.
