Lancaster (N.Y.) National Speedway will come alive for the final time during the 2018 stock car season this weekend with the 30th Annual running of the US Open.

The US Open, which debuted under the guidance of promoter Alex Friesen, in 1989 began a Western New York racing tradition that has become a must-see event for racing fans from throughout the region. This season’s edition will see several racing highlights including the Super Stock Series honoring speedway racing legend John Julicher in the inaugural $1,500-to-win “John Julicher Classic” on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Modified Series will compete in 125-lap feature. Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, N.Y., is the defending event champion. The driver, who has earned the most points in the five Lancaster Modified races, will be the recipient of unique one-of-a-kind trophy designed by NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Driver, Corey LaJoie named the “Troyer / Treichler” Trophy.

“It’s a privilege to build a trophy commemorating those drivers” stated LaJoie. “There are some of the biggest names in Modified racing at one of the most historic Modified tracks in the country and the series is one of the most recognized Series in the sport. It is fun building trophies, but when they have some significance it makes me put a little more effort to make the trophy stand out.”
