SPALDING FOUNDATION FOR INJURED DRIVERS RACE OF CHAMPIONS DRIVER’S REUNION AT CHEMUNG SPEEDROME ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 4, 2018 CONTINUES TO GROW
The Spalding Foundation for Injured Driver’s Race of Champions Driver’s Reunion at Chemung Speedrome on Saturday, August 4, will be one of several highlights as motorsports takes center stage in the Southern Tier of New York state.
While the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series highlights the weekends activity at Watkins Glen International, short track stars will shine at Chemung on Saturday evening with the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series competing in the Rod Spalding Classic as well as the Race of Champions Super Stocks racing in the Tribute to Ed McGuire 51 as well be joined by INEX Legends and INEX Bandoleros.
In addition to the racing the Spalding Foundation for Injured Driver’s has partnered with the Race of Champions to host a unique Driver’s Reunion at the Chemung Speedrome as part of this event. The day will feature famous drivers and racing personalities from Shangri-La and Chemung as well as the traditional Spalding Foundation auction.
Over 50 “stars” from the past who have competed at Shangri-La Speedway or the Chemung Speedrome will be on hand as guests. Among those “stars” of the past are familiar names like; Tim Connolly, Graeme Bolia, Jim Zacharias, Dave Nichols, Jerry Chandler, Eddie Roberts (who drove a sprint car in 1946 when Shangri-La Speedway first opened), George Kent, Brett Bodine, Todd Bodine (all part of Chemung Speedrome’s founding family), Frank Chapman, Sr., and many more. Simmons-Rockwell in Bath, N.Y., Midstate Basement Authorities in Ithaca, N.Y., have joined the Spalding Foundation for Injured as Drivers to help present the event as partners.
There will be an autograph session for the reunion drivers as well as the Spalding Foundation auction.
