Bryan Hulbert – ELMA, Wash. (July 3, 2018) With a tough run through Washington in the rearview mirror, Johnny Herrera is on the road to Belgrade, Mont. for the third annual Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway.

“We’ve run okay at Gallatin. Track position is important there, but I’m looking forward to getting back and seeing what we can do. We’re still searching the car a little bit. We had a couple crashes the past few races, so we’re going over and making sure everything is right for this weekend.”

Five nights of racing between the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway and the Fred Brownfield Classic at Grays Harbor Raceway, Johnny’s best finish in Washington was a sixth-place showing on June 21.

“We were better in Washington at times, but then we just got caught up a few times. We started off good at Skagit and finished sixth, then the next night we ended up getting upside down so that just put us behind,” stated Herrera.

“I was surprised the car wasn’t really bent, just a lot of bolt-on parts. We got it back together and felt really good on Saturday until we ended up with a flat. We got it fixed, but with no more time than we had, we didn’t the bleeder in the right rear, so after a couple of laps, the car was just too free.”

Going into Grays Harbor, Johnny was looking to rebound at a track where he has had some success, but things would not go as planned.

“Grays Harbor was tough. The draw was really important, and we just couldn’t get past it, then we ended up getting tangled with another car in the Heat on Saturday, but it worked out where we were able to race through the B-Main and actually the car felt good in the Feature. We started 21st and ended up 13th. Once it started misting on us the last few laps, the track was just wide open, so it was tough to make up any more ground but we’re just going to keep digging and turn things around.”

The Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway takes place on Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7 with each night getting underway at 7:00 P.M. (MDT).
